About the business unit  
The Buildings and Cities Unit (BNC) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors. 

 

Overview of role
You will be an experienced Highways Design / Drainage Engineer and integral member of the Wales highways team working on all types of highways and active travel schemes from feasibility through to implementation.  Providing experience and direction to the project team on highway / drainage design and construction. Key clients and workstreams include NMWTRA for which we are a preferred Framework supplier, Transport for Wales Engineering Consultancy Services Framework, and local highways authorities.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Contribute to the technical design of Highways and Infrastructure projects to meet client and business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain trusting and productive relationships with client representatives
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other teams and disciplines to win and successfully deliver projects
  • Maintain a good understanding of relevant standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Legislation, and current relevant design methods.
  • Comply with Company governance and quality Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Assist in monitoring, planning and forecasting utilisation of own discipline team members.

 

Candidate specification
Essential criteria:

  • MSc or Meng in a relevant Engineering discipline 
  • Demonstrable experience of highways design experience including familiarity and experience of relevant standards and specifications such as DMRB and SHW
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation, duties and best practice in relation to the design and construction of civil engineering works
  • Industry standard digital design tools e.g.   AutoCAD, AutoTRACK, Civils 3D

 

Desirable criteria:

  • Enthusiasm and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Working towards I.Eng or C.Eng and a commitment to continuous improvement and development
  • Previous experience of an engineering organisation
  • Knowledge and experience of the construction process
  • Microdrainage / Infodrainage / Causeway Flow
