We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and​ advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy. 

 

 

Overview of role

 

As an Exterior Lighting and Electrical Engineer, you will be undertaking the design, implementation and commissioning of external lighting schemes, general electrical design works and environmental lighting impact assessments.
You will have the opportunity to develop and grow your career and work on a range of projects varying in size and complexity across both the public and private sectors, providing great responsibility to work autonomously on your projects and as part of a larger team.


Projects cover the full lifecycle from feasibility, through concept and into design and construction stages. You will work closely with other members of the team, supporting the Discipline Lead to maintain the delivery culture and high performance, but you will also be assisting project teams or project elements through all phases of a project, from bidding to completion.

 

As well as this, you will also be working alongside early career professionals as part of the team, using your experience to support, mentor and develop apprentices/technicians.

 

 

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Delivery of aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) and electrical design to UK and international design standards;
  • Delivery of highway lighting design to UK and international design standards;
  • Working on a range of projects of varying size and scale across both the public and private sectors (including overseas) throughout the entire project lifecycle
  • Design of new and replacement highway and amenity lighting schemes to BS5489
  • Design and verification of general low voltage (L.V) private cable networks to BS7671
  • Assist in the production of contractual documentation (Inc. specification and bills of quantities/schedule of rates)
  • Production of design drawings and schematics using a range of software in the BIM environment
  • Supporting technical parts of the business to fully take account of operation and maintenance;
  • Supporting members of the team with their technical and professional development;
  • Implementing digital technology to increase delivery efficiency or enhance project outcomes

 

 

Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience designing new and replacement highway and amenity lighting schemes to BS5489 and ILP Guidance documents and/or demonstrable experience designing aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) to ICAO and other recognised aviation standards.
  • Knowledge of lighting, electrical design and environmental lighting guidance with sound engineering principles.
  • Understanding of design standards and guidance including BS 5489-1 / BS EN 12464-2 / BS7671 / DMRB / ILP technical and guidance notes;
  • Be knowledgeable using design tools, e.g., Lighting Reality, DIALux, AGI32, Trimble ProDesign, Naviswork, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D
  • Have experience in the design and verification of general low voltage (L.V) private cable networks to BS7671;
  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent; and,
  • Security Clearance (SC) and/or willingness to obtain SC.

 

 

Essential competencies / skills:

  • Strong interpersonal / people skills;
  • Ability to work in a fluid and fast environment; and,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people.
  • Incorporated Engineer status or working towards it.

 

 

Desirable academic, qualifications, experience, competencies and skills:

  • Experience working on civil or military airfield ground lighting projects and familiarity with airfield standards and specifications, such as Regulatory Articles (RA), FAA and ICAO 
  • Broader competencies that could add value to your role, such as digital (e.g. 3D modelling, 2D CAD)
