About the role

You will work as part of Mott MacDonald’s dedicated Social and Stakeholder team, leading on social value delivery across various infrastructure sectors within several of our core business units. You will work within our social value team, with a specific focus on delivering Mott MacDonald’s social value commitments on projects for leading water sector clients in the first instance. Opportunities in the built environment, energy, health and transportation sectors. This role will also support working winning and service growth, capturing, monitoring, and reporting on social value progress and performance. 

 

This role will lead on the following activities (this is not an exhaustive list):


Business development

  • Work closely with bid teams across our business units and sectors to respond to tendering requirements.
  • Where applicable, provide a technical reviewer role on social value bids in support of junior social value consultants who will draft content.


Project delivery

  • Work with colleagues to embed social value delivery into water sector contracts and project delivery – this includes developing unit, sector, and project specific social value strategies and action plans. 
  • Manage and deliver a range of social value projects across Mott MacDonald’s portfolio of water sector clients in the first instance, to include stakeholder relationship management with clients and project teams. 
  • Manage delivery of agreed action plans, monitor, measure, and report on performance (produce reports, action plans and presentations where needed). 


Strategic planning

  • Support the development of a social value consultancy offer for the Environment and Social business. 
  • Drive and feed into the continuous improvement around Mott MacDonald’s social value approach.


Technical excellence

  • Design and deliver upskilling and capacity building workshops for UK colleagues, including developing domain knowledge of early career professionals.
  • Attend and speak at external events and undertake external business development (opportunity identification for collaboration with external organisations, clients, and professional membership organisations).
  • Create good news stories, case studies, and communicate social value stories via Mott MacDonald’s social media channels.


Additional responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, and develop junior members of staff in project teams around social value.

 

It is expected that most of the role will be delivered from one of three of our UK offices: Cambridge, Brighton, or London. 


We are looking for an individual with a passion for this subject area with the following attributes:

 

Essential

  • Experience in construction, infrastructure and consultancy for UK water sector clients considered an asset. 
  • An excellent knowledge of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, PPN 06/20, and best practice social value delivery.
  • Proven experience of developing social value plans and strategies including, but not limited to, actions around project delivery, internal team engagement, procurement, supply chain engagement, community outreach, apprenticeship schemes, UK government and devolved nations social value policies, collaboration, and local skills development.
  • Proven experience in applying industry standard social value measurement frameworks to your work, i.e., the TOMs Framework. 
  • Proven experience of preparing social value bid responses and successful at winning work.
  • Experience of project delivery and management – including preparing and managing multiple budgets, managing resources, and working to tight deadlines.
  • Confidence in liaising with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, presenting, and writing.
  • A proactive attitude towards innovation, leading initiatives and driving change.


Desirable

  • A professional accreditation in social value, such as completion of practitioner training provided by Social Value International. 
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • An ability to build networks and coach others.
  • Experiencing in developing new consultancy services to support business expansion.
