Your Opportunity  

 

Our Defence and Security Division team within our Australian business are looking for a commercial manager to join our team in a key role supporting major infrastructure programs. This position is responsible for leading the commercial and contractual management of complex projects, ensuring robust processes are in place to manage risk, drive value, and deliver outcomes for our client.

 

You will work closely with contractors and internal stakeholders to manage contracts, oversee change control, and support the broader engineering team with expert commercial guidance. The role also involves mentoring team members, contributing to forecasting and reporting, and ensuring all post-contract commercial requirements are met.

 

Ultimately, you will play a vital role in delivering project success while helping to strengthen our commercial capability in the Defence sector.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead commercial and contractual management for major infrastructure programs, including contract administration, claims, and final accounts.
  • Implement and maintain commercial processes and procedures to support continuous improvement and compliance.
  • Manage contractor relationships and lead commercial progress meetings to ensure service delivery aligns with client expectations.
  • Support the engineering team with commercial expertise, embedding best practices and maintaining accurate records for negotiations.
  • Oversee project forecasting, change control, subcontract approvals, and pricing of additional scope.
  • Provide mentoring and development to team members while contributing to reporting, governance, and commercial capability building.

 

About You

 

With around 10-15 years of experience in commercial management, you have primarily supported your organisation’s commercial outcomes and may have started providing consulting advice to clients. You are eager to expand your experience across multiple markets and develop further in areas you may not yet have mastered.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to commercial management, law, engineering, or business.
  • Experience in developing delivery-oriented commercial solutions for infrastructure clients.
  • Engagement with in-house and outside counsel for legal guidance and contract formation.
  • Practical experience administering various standard forms of infrastructure contracts (e.g., DTMRs TIPDS suite, NEC, AS 2124, AS 4000).
  • Subcontractor procurement and contract management experience.
  • Strong commercial skills and appreciation of relevant procurement and delivery strategies in Defence Proejct.
