Join one of Australia's most significant defence and nuclear programmes supporting the delivery of the AUKUS partnership and Australia's future naval nuclear capability.  

 

Due to strong growth and an exciting pipeline of projects, Mott MacDonald's Defence Division in Adelaide has an exciting opening for a Senior Safety Case Engineer to support the delivery of complex naval nuclear programme. As a Senior Nuclear Safety Case Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of nuclear safety case and safety assurance activities across complex, high-profile programmes. Working alongside specialists from Australia, the UK and across our global business, you will contribute to safety-critical outcomes while continuing to develop your technical expertise and leadership capability. In this position you will: 

 

  •  Lead the development of safety case documentation and supporting analyses. 
  • Deliver nuclear safety assessments across various stages of the project lifecycle. 

  • Support engagement with clients, regulators and technical stakeholders. 

  • Contribute to hazard identification, risk assessment and safety substantiation activities. 

  • Review and assure technical deliverables produced by project teams. 

  • Support and mentor graduate and early-career engineers. 

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve successful project outcomes.

 

Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: 

 

  • Nuclear safety case development and substantiation 

  • Deterministic and Probabilistic Safety Assessment 

  • Regulatory engagement and licensing activities 

  • Design change and modification safety assessments 

  • ALARP and risk assessment studies 

  • Decommissioning and lifecycle safety management 

  • Functional safety and engineering substantiation 

  • Hazard identification and risk studies (HAZOP, HAZAN and related techniques) 

  • Nuclear fire and criticality assessment 

  • Decommissioning and lifecycle safety management 

 

About You 

 

  •  A degree in engineering, physics or another relevant STEM discipline. 
  • Experience delivering nuclear safety case or safety assurance activities. 

  • Experience within nuclear, defence or other highly regulated industries. 

  • Progress towards Chartered status, or Chartered Engineer status. 

  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills. 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities. 

  • A desire to continue developing both technically and professionally. 

  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members would be advantageous.
