About the Armed Forces Pathway


Mott MacDonald’s Armed Forces Pathway represents our commitment to recruiting, transitioning, developing, and supporting the armed forces community within our organisation. The Pathway is designed to support military personnel transitioning into civilian careers. It provides support and  resources to help individuals develop relevant skills, and successfully integrate into roles outside of the military. Our programme offers training, mentorship, and network opportunities, tailored to the unique experiences and skills of military personnel.

 

Duration: 12 months 

 

Location: Plymouth 

 

Programme: Participants will learn about quality assurance within our Advisory division. You will be supported to work on a variety of client projects and empowered to develop your skills within a consultancy environment. 


Support: You’ll be paired with a supportive buddy from our Mott MacDonald Forces community.


Agile Working: The role will require regular site attendance in line with the construction programme.  This will usually be a 60/40 split between site and working from home in any week e.g. 3 days on site / 2 days home working, though this is dependent upon the pace of delivery and assurance/control activities within your specialism.


During 2024 the working pattern may move to a day and night shift pattern to meet the project delivery pace and client deadline requirements.

 


Armed Forces Pathway – Quality Assurance Engineer

We are seeking an individual from a forces background to join us as Quality Assurance Engineer. We're offering this role as part of our Armed Forces Pathway programme where you'll receive full support and training to enhance your military skill set.

 

 

A bit about the team 


The Unit delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of Programme Management, Project Management, Project Controls, Quality Management, Scheduling, Cost Management, Estimating, Infrastructure Finance, Management Consulting, Digital Consulting and Education, Health and Care Management.

 

 

What you will contribute to the team:


Mott MacDonald are in a Joint Venture to deliver a major defence sector infrastructure project in Plymouth and are looking to recruit Quality Assurance / Quality Control Engineers to support delivery of this project.

  • Provide the Project with accurate and timely quality assurance / quality control support in relation to civils enabling, construction and equipment manufacturing / installation works.
  • Support delivery of the Quality Assurance function on allocated project(s), including witnessing manufacturing/construction activities for compliance with design/technical standards, supplier Inspection & Test Plans and supporting the generation of Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs).
  • Audit activities on works package activities to ISO 9001, industry standard(s) and Client and/or Regulator specific requirements.
  • Assist with Supply Chain assessment and surveillance activities against ISO 9001 and Client/Regulator requirements for all First Level Safety Critical suppliers and support the provision of professional support to the Project for all supply chain quality issues.

 

 

Required for the position of Quality Assurance Engineer:  

  • Hold (be working towards or willing to work towards) a Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) with a construction/ engineering  focus.
  • Experience of civil / engineering projects in defence environments advantageous
  • Experience with using quality tools & techniques to report quality assurance performance advantageous.
  • Able to carry out investigations and produce reports.
  • Ability to demonstrate good problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learning to new skills and a commitment to personal development. 
  • Flexibility to travel to client / supply chain site when required.  

 

 

Required for an Armed Forces Pathway programme position:

  • Ex-forces with less than one year working experience or transitioning service leaver.
  • Availability to start a new position within three months of this role being advertised
