Senior Electrical Engineer – Building Services

Shape buildings that make a lasting difference

At Mott MacDonald, we believe buildings should do more than function well — they should support the people who use them and the communities they serve. Our New Zealand Building Services team is growing, and we’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of complex and meaningful projects.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in shaping electrical building services solutions nationally, while working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consultancy that values quality, integrity and long‑term impact.

Your role and purpose

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll lead the delivery and technical direction of electrical building services design across major projects in sectors such as transport, aviation, healthcare, commercial, residential, education and civic infrastructure.

You’ll combine technical excellence with calm, experienced leadership — guiding teams, supporting clients, and influencing outcomes from early concept through to construction and commissioning. This is a hands‑on principal role with real influence over project quality, team capability and client confidence.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing technical leadership and governance for electrical building services design across complex projects
  • Leading and reviewing electrical designs through concept, detailed design and construction phases
  • Delivering compliant, sustainable and well‑coordinated electrical solutions aligned with project objectives
  • Working closely with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
  • Mentoring and developing engineers across the Building Services team
  • Supporting work‑winning activities through technical input, proposals and client discussions
  • Championing quality, safety, sustainability and innovation in building services delivery
  • Contributing to the ongoing growth and capability of Mott MacDonald’s Building Services practice in New Zealand

What you’ll bring

  • A recognised degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand building standards, codes and regulations
  • Proven experience leading electrical design on complex building projects
  • Confidence working directly with clients and supporting senior project leadership
  • A collaborative mindset with a clear focus on mentoring and lifting technical standards
  • CPEng and Engineering New Zealand registration, or close to achieving it
