We’re looking for a Technical Director – Wastewater / Storm Water Modelling to join our Water team in Auckland. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, building trusted relationships, and driving innovation in wastewater infrastructure.

As Technical Director, you’ll lead strategic modelling and network planning projects that support long-term infrastructure development across New Zealand. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring others, growing our market presence, and delivering excellence for our clients.
Your Impact
- Client & Market Focus
- Lead the creation of new opportunities, including sole-sourced work, proposals, and bids
- Build deep understanding of client structures, funding models, and strategic priorities
- Develop market-focused relationships to raise Mott MacDonald’s profile across the water and infrastructure sectors
Project Leadership
- Act as Project Principal, Project Manager, or Design Manager on key projects
- Deliver high-quality outcomes that meet or exceed client expectations
- Apply engineering expertise at a Chartered level (or equivalent), with a strong grasp of professional services and contract delivery
- Navigate commercial risks and industry approaches to water infrastructure delivery
- Use analytical tools and apply best practices in health and safety, risk management, and design
- Manage project resources and budgets effectively, escalating changes as needed
- Lead multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
About You
You’re a seasoned hydraulic modeller and strategic thinker with a passion for wastewater and / or storm water infrastructure and community impact.
You bring:
- A degree in Engineering, Science, Geography, or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in water and wastewater modelling and network planning
- Proficiency in platforms such as InfoWorks ICM, DHI MIKE+, ArcGIS, and QGIS
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative mindset
- A track record of delivering complex projects and building client trust
- A commitment to mentoring others and fostering a culture of growth and inclusion
