Water Technician – Auckland
Shape a better world with Mott MacDonald

At Mott MacDonald New Zealand, we’re driven by a shared purpose: to improve society by considering social outcomes in everything we do. We’re currently seeking a Water Technician to join our specialist water utility monitoring team, working on critical wastewater and water network monitoring projects that make a real difference to communities across Aotearoa.

This is a hands-on, predominantly outdoor role based in Auckland, where no two days are the same. You’ll be installing and servicing flow, level, and logging equipment in diverse environments—from wastewater manholes and stormwater pipes to treatment plants and above-ground instrument cabinets. It’s a role that requires a can-do attitude, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and a passion for solving technical challenges that have a tangible impact on the environment and public health.

Our monitoring programs support major infrastructure upgrades and provide real-time data that informs water quality, network performance, and compliance with environmental standards. You’ll be part of a close-knit, high-performing team that’s trusted across the industry for delivering quality outcomes. Whether working independently or alongside your teammates, your safety and wellbeing will always be our top priority.

What you'll do

  • Install and service flow, level, and logging equipment in wastewater and stormwater networks
  • Work in environments such as manholes, pipes, instrument cabinets, and treatment plants
  • Perform site-based work, including occasional night shifts, with a strong focus on safety
  • Check and validate monitoring data for accuracy and performance
  • Schedule and carry out maintenance activities across multiple sites
  • Analyse data trends and report findings to engineers, scientists, and managers
  • Contribute to real-time monitoring programs that support infrastructure upgrades and environmental compliance

About you

  • Practical and safety-conscious, with a willingness to work in confined spaces like manholes
  • Physically fit and able to pass a full medical test
  • Hold a full NZ driver’s licence and legal entitlement to work in New Zealand
  • Comfortable working with wastewater and in physically active environments
  • Background in plumbing, drainlaying, construction, or general contracting is a bonus (not essential)
  • Basic computer skills in Word and Excel
  • Flexible with working hours, including occasional night shifts
  • Eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a purpose-driven team
