As a key member of the West Unit, this leadership role will extend Mott MacDonald’s Advisory reach in the US, providing alternative delivery and commercial support on large-scale projects. This role includes mentoring junior staff and bridging technical acumen with engineering.

Key accountabilities of the role include: 

  • Establishing the role as Alternative Delivery Principal for the West Unit providing strategic advice and guidance to both internal teams and external clients. 

  • Integrating with Mott MacDonald’s North America Advisory Practice network to support and provide oversight of Advisory mandates. 

  • Supporting the development of the Advisory services specifically as it relates to Alternative Procurement advice for major transportation infrastructure clients. 

  • Recruiting and overseeing Advisory practitioners within the West Unit office locations. 

 

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide commercial and alternative delivery expertise on projects. Advise clients on the Advisory capabilities within Mott MacDonald and lead or support the delivery of mandates. 

  • In conjunction with our recruitment team, support the West Unit’s Advisory growth. Recruit personnel, attract talent to Mott MacDonald and continue to build our environment where growth is inevitable. Develop a pool of capable and effective resources to win and deliver Advisory work, either working directly or with other parts of the regional practice(s) to gain access to such resources. 

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Mott MacDonald, acting as an exemplary role model in the Advisory space, articulating and representing the brand, vision, and value proposition internally and externally. 

  • Be accountable for delivery of quality deliverables, striving for continual improvement in the delivery of our Advisory services. 

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team. Proactively engage with the Unit and demonstrate visible and inspiring leadership. Support the Unit Leadership team through the provision of strategic thinking on Mott MacDonald’s Advisory practice. 

  • Work with the Development Manager, Portfolio Managers, and Account Leaders to achieve a uniform, proactive, and planned approach to business development, ensuring Advisory services are integrated into our broader company offering. 

  • Demonstrate exemplar leadership in maintaining the Ethical standards and values of Mott MacDonald within the Unit, ensuring a zero tolerance of unacceptable behaviors. 

  • Ensure the correct governance policies, procedures and standards are implemented and achieved within Advisory team. 

 

Skills and experience required: 

  • Extensive (circa 20+ years) experience related to the development of technical procurement documentation, engineering and/or infrastructure development. 

  • Preferably a contracting/consulting background with an understanding of construction scheduling, risk transfer, and can opine on buildability issues. 

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of preparing P3, GC/CM or PDB contracts. 

  • Experience with structuring procurement packages. 

  • Familiar and proficient with project management processes. 

  • Experience of projects in transit and highways projects. 

  • Knowledge and experience of risk identification, management and mitigation. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of leading and working within a team. 

  • Excellent written and presentation skills. 

  • Positive attitude, team player.
