Role purpose

The MIC BIM Component Creator develops, tests, documents and maintains intelligent, reusable, data-rich BIM content for the Moata Intelligent Content (MIC) library. The role converts engineering and project requirements into reliable digital components that enable standardized, efficient and automated design delivery across infrastructure and building projects.

Working with MIC curators, content checkers, approvers, publishers and project teams, the role ensures that content is technically accurate, lightweight, interoperable, correctly classified and ready for controlled publication and reuse.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain parametric, data-rich BIM content, including Revit families, AutoCAD-based components, Civil 3D subassemblies and other platform-specific assets required by MIC.
  • Interpret briefs, engineering requirements, manufacturer information and project standards, then convert them into clear content specifications and fit-for-purpose digital components.
  • Apply MIC naming, classification, parameter, metadata, category, subcategory and documentation standards consistently throughout the content lifecycle.
  • Build content that is efficient in file size, stable in use, visually appropriate, correctly constrained and suitable for reuse in large project models.
  • Configure and test geometry, parameters, formulas, types, visibility settings, connectors, materials and data outputs, as applicable to the authoring platform.
  • Create and test Civil 3D subassemblies using Subassembly Composer, including parameters, targets, conditions, codes and corridor behavior where required.
  • Complete self-checks and peer checks before content is submitted through the MIC review, approval, versioning and publication gateways.
  • Respond to checker and approver feedback, correct identified issues and maintain traceable records of revisions, testing and status.
  • Maintain content documentation, thumbnails, reference files, metadata, version information and progress updates in the relevant MIC tracking and catalogue systems.
  • Collaborate with project teams, engineering specialists and digital delivery stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues and support content adoption.
  • Provide practical support to users, investigate content-related issues and implement controlled updates without compromising existing use cases.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for standardization, batch processing, automation, quality assurance and reusable workflows.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and develop capabilities across relevant Autodesk, Bentley, GIS, data and automation platforms.

Essential qualifications and experience

  • HNC/HND, diploma, degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, architecture, construction technology, information technology or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience creating, editing and quality-checking BIM or digital engineering content within at least one engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of BIM content-development principles, including parametric modelling, data structures, classification, naming, performance optimization and quality assurance.
  • Proficiency in Revit family creation, including parameters, formulas, nested content, categories, subcategories, visibility controls, materials and testing.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D; hands-on experience with Civil 3D Subassembly Composer is required for roles supporting corridor content.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, manufacturer data and project requirements.
  • Experience working within controlled review, approval, version-management and publication processes.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and locations.

Desirable knowledge and experience

  • Experience with Bentley platforms, including MicroStation, OpenBuildings Designer, DGN and CEL content.
  • Working knowledge of GIS platforms such as Esri ArcGIS.
  • Experience with content catalogues or repositories such as Bentley Component Center and Autodesk Content Catalogue.
  • Knowledge of shared-parameter management, data integration, batch processing or tools such as DiRoots.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation for BIM content creation and quality assurance, such as Dynamo, Python or platform APIs.
  • Experience developing generic or manufacturer content for the Water, Wastewater, Transport, Energy or Built Environment sectors.
