About the role
We're looking for a Front End Engineering Lead based in India, working a hybrid model with time in one of our offices a few days each week alongside the flexibility to work remotely. This is a technical lead role at its core, with the opportunity to lead with purpose and build high-quality digital experiences that enable better decision-making at scale.
There's potential to grow into people leadership over time, though that isn't a requirement from day one. You'll work closely with UX designers and product leads as part of a centre of expertise, with exposure to a wide variety of Mott MacDonald's digital initiatives and projects across the business.
You'll collaborate within a diverse, high-performing global team responsible for developing and maintaining front-end applications and shared UI components. Your work will enable teams across our business to deliver consistent, accessible, and high-quality applications, supporting infrastructure, communities, and clients worldwide.
You'll balance hands-on technical delivery with strategic thinking, helping to shape how we build, scale, and evolve our front-end capability while fostering a culture of learning.
What you'll do
- Partner closely with product owners, stakeholders, and regional technical leads to ensure consistency, quality, and excellence across applications.
- Oversee the planning, design, development, and ongoing improvement of front-end applications, shared UI components, and developer tooling
- Contribute to front end architecture.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of design systems, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and scalability across applications.
- Support the technical growth of developers around you, promoting best-practice engineering standards.
- Lead estimation and risk assessment, contribute to architectural decisions, and dive into complex development challenges when needed.
- Help evolve our ways of working, tooling, and standards to support reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Help set standards for responsible and effective use of AI-assisted tooling within the team.
- Engage with colleagues across different regions and time zones, bringing together diverse perspectives to shape cohesive, high-quality front-end experiences.
- Clearly communicate technical decisions and recommendations to peers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
What you'll bring to this role
- 8+ years of strong commercial front-end development experience, with a genuine passion for technology, people, and quality.
- Proven experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, React and Redux, testing frameworks, SCSS, and RESTful APIs.
- A solid grasp of UX/UI principles, accessibility, and modern web standards.
- A pragmatic and proactive approach, looking for ways to strengthen front-end capability while balancing the need to get the job done.
- Curiosity, openness to feedback, and a commitment to engineering practices that deliver meaningful outcomes.
- You communicate clearly, adapting your style to different audiences and building strong relationships across teams.
- You're structured and reliable in the way you work, and able to manage priorities.
- Ideally, you have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
