Job Description
As a member of the transport planning team in Bengaluru, you will be integrated within a range of transport planning projects and assisting in driving these projects to successful delivery. You will be a key addition to the team, contributing to the continued development of Mott MacDonald’s market presence and ongoing growth of the transport planning business across the UK. You may also contribute to the company’s wider portfolio of international projects.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience in the transport planning industry, with a good understanding of the UK transport policy and appraisal landscape. They will be able to apply this knowledge to support the successful delivery of projects for public and private sector clients and demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Supporting the preparation of transport business cases and funding applications in accordance with HM Treasury Green Book and Department for Transport's Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG).
- Developing and interpreting economic appraisal models to assess the impacts and value for money of transport interventions in accordance with HM Treasury Green Book and TAG.
- Contributing to active travel projects, including Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs), active travel strategies, scheme development, concept design and option appraisal.
- Contributing to public transport studies, local transport plans, transport strategies, feasibility studies and transport investment programmes.
- Supporting development planning and infrastructure projects, including the preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Access Studies, Environmental Statements and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
- Analysing and interpreting transport, demographic, economic and spatial datasets to inform transport strategies, business cases and investment decisions.
- Using GIS software such as QGIS or ArcGIS to undertake spatial analysis, network planning and data visualisation.
- Developing and applying Python-based analytical and automation tools to improve the efficiency, reproducibility, and robustness of transport planning, appraisal, and business case development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of UK transport planning projects as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Undertake technical analysis, economic appraisal, research and data interpretation to support project outputs.
- Prepare clear, accurate technical reports supporting business cases, funding applications and proposals.
- Contribute to active travel plans, transport strategy, development planning and infrastructure projects.
- Use GIS and analytical tools to support spatial analysis, network planning and data visualisation.
- Support improvements to analytical processes, including the use of Python and automation tools where appropriate.
- Manage assigned tasks to agreed quality, budget and programme requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across India and the UK and communicate effectively with project teams and clients.
- Apply quality assurance procedures and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Develop technical knowledge and professional capability through project experience and training.
Desirable Skills and Additional Competencies
- Membership of, or progress towards membership of, a relevant professional institution.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed project teams.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Transport Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
