Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors.  We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services. APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

 


Overview of the role
Owning to the continued expansion within our built environment sector, we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing and diverse Buildings team to be based in one of our regional office.

 

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the delivery of projects by assisting in cost planning, procurement, contract administration and financial reporting throughout the RIBA stages, working on a variety of projects across a diverse client base including Central Government, Local Authority and the Private Sector. 

 

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Preparation of cost plans, cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents
  • Support the procurement process including issuing enquiries, evaluating tenders, and preparing recommendations
  • Measurement and quantification
  • Support in managing change control, including risk management, value engineering and cost control measures
  • Prepare benchmarking analyses and contribute to capturing project benchmark data
  • Assist in the preparation and agreement of interim valuations and final accounts. Prepare recommendations for payment
  • Valuing construction works including site visits and liaising with subcontractors. Maintain accurate records of project progress, variations, and contractual correspondence
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and industry standards
  • Monitor project costs and provide regular financial reports to senior management
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers and clients to ensure commercial objectives are met
  • Support and advise the Project Manager in fulfilling contractual obligations and compiling contract documents Supporting internal business development initiatives

 


Candidate specification
Essential:

  • Demonstratable relevant cost management experience in the Buildings Sector
  • Demonstrable knowledge and application of pre and post contract cost management
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a larger team
  • Working towards or attained MRICS chartership or equivalent
  • Degree qualified in a Quantity Surveying subject (or equivalent e.g. working towards a conversion course)
  • Experience of working within a professional environment within a Cost Consultancy/Main Contractor
  • Experience using industry recognised measurement software and tools e.g. Cost X
