About the business unit
The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key sectors: Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group within these sectors.
Overview of the role
The Architecture team is part of the Buildings unit within Mott MacDonald and provides services across all RIBA stages on a wide variety of projects. You will be part of a growing Architecture practice based in the UK.Our main subsectors are Aviation, Energy, Defence and Transportation, although we deliver a diverse portfolio of challenging projects across most building typologies throughout the UK, Europe and globally. We look for individuals who are excited by the opportunity to work on a diverse range of project types. Although we specialise in key sectors, our team members are encouraged to broaden their experience by contributing across multiple sectors and all stages of project delivery.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Architect to join our growing Architecture practice in Birmingham. This role is ideal for an experienced architect who is already leading projects and client relationships and is keen to play an active role in growing our business across the UK and Ireland.
You will be a leader in our architecture team and lead multidisciplinary project teams, act as a trusted advisor to clients, contribute to winning new work, and help shape the future growth of our Architecture practice across sectors including Aviation, Transportation, Industrial, Defence and Energy.
As a digitally focused practice, we are seeking candidates with strong Revit capabilities who can lead and coordinate design delivery.
We work for a number of clients across the UK, Ireland, Europe and elsewhere, covering all aspects of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of complex architectural projects across multiple sectors and RIBA stages.
- Act as the primary day-to-day client contact on projects, building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate inputs from internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead project programming, resource management, quality assurance and commercial performance.
- Support business development activities, including client engagement, networking and identifying opportunities for future work.
- Contribute to bids, proposals, fee submissions and interview presentations.
- Mentor and support the development of junior architects and architectural assistants.
- Work collaboratively with sector leaders to strengthen Mott MacDonald's market presence across key growth sectors.
- The role will require you to manage members of staff in the architecture team as line manager within the hierarchy of the architecture practice.
Candidate Specification
Essential
- Significant post-Part III experience in an architectural practice, consultancy or multidisciplinary environment.
- ARB registered.
- Proven experience leading projects and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Experience managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact throughout project delivery.
- People management and leadership experience
- Strong commercial awareness, including project planning, programme management and resource coordination.
- Experience preparing or contributing to bids, proposals and fee submissions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience developing and mentoring junior team members.
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit
Desirable
- Demonstrable track record of winning work and securing repeat business.
- Existing client relationships within one or more of our target sectors.
- Experience presenting to clients and leading bid interviews.
- Knowledge of public sector procurement frameworks.
- Experience working within Defence, Energy, Transportation, Aviation or Industrial sectors.
- Experience supporting strategic business planning or market development initiatives.
