We are seeking a Senior Associate or Technical Director Civil Engineer with a background in water supply, wastewater, water resources, dams and/or river engineering to lead our technical teams in the south and south-east. This a fantastic professional opportunity for driven individuals to work on a uniquely wide range of water related projects in the UK and worldwide. As part of our team, you will be able to make a difference by:

  • Leading the design of major water supply infrastructure to ensure sustainable water security in the region,
  • Contributing to innovative grey and blue-green sewer solutions to reduce the amount of wastewater spills,
  • Developing climate-resilient flood protection for our communities whilst safeguarding habitats including our rare chalk streams,and
  • Delivering cutting-edge water treatment plants to improve water quality in our rivers and coastlines.

 
In this role, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership across our programmes of potable water pipelines, sewers, treatment works and other civil engineering designs, taking overall responsibility for their delivery.
  • Direct, develop and supervise large teams of design staff, providing technical and commercial guidance to support their development and to respond to the needs of the programme.
  • Develop and nurture sound relationships with our clients, and other relevant external stakeholders (such as relevant local authorities, NGOs and community groups) to meet expectations and client satisfaction.
  • Represent the company in high-profile meetings.
  • Lead technical excellence activities through digital innovation, sharing best practice and implementing robust QA procedures.
  • Contribute to our commercial success through forecasting and risk management, and the production of bids and proposals.
  • Work to Mott MacDonald’s global standards and review Health, Safety and Welfare alongside environmental impact.

Candidate Specification
We are looking for a driven individual, with a strong technical background in water  and the desire to contribute to projects which improve society and transform our clients’ businesses and our communities.

 

Required skills and experience:

  • Proven ability to lead a portfolio of technical projects, ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance and technical standards and supporting the development of less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrable technical experience in the design of complex projects and the management of large design teams
  • Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams with other technical disciplines including environmental specialists, geotechnical, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers.
  • A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions.
  • Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under CDM
  • Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution.

 

Desirable:

  • Able to travel to other offices and sites, as required.
  • Track record in building teams and capability of junior staff.
  • Experience in preparing successfully bids and in undertaking client engagement.
