Principal Project Manager
Mott MacDonald is a dynamic and innovative engineering, management and development consultancy working with high profile clients across Australia and globally.  We're the driving force behind some of Australia's most iconic infrastructure ventures that are transforming the way we live, work, and play.

Our national and globally connected business allows opportunities for our people to be involved and work on key globally recognised projects such as the Queensland local Borumba Pumped Hydro Project, Brisbane Olympics 2032, Cross River Rail, Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail, and other nationally significant opportunities across Australia, South-East Asia, North America and Europe - projects that shape the communities in which we live. You will have opportunities to build connections across our networks of international experts and bring your knowledge to our clients and to their projects.

Following growth in the Queensland market and with a strong pipeline of current projects and upcoming opportunities, we are looking to continue the growth of our Project, Strategy & Delivery team.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Principal Project Manager to support the delivery of our committed work and growing pipeline of prospects for government and institutional clients. This role involves taking ownership of entire projects as well as managing project functions within a broader PMO on some of our largest engagements. You will collaborate closely with Commercial and Technical leaders and build productive relationships with our clients and partners.

With us, you’ll have the chance to engage across several key markets – transportation, energy, defence, water, and the built environment in Queensland and across Australia. Initially, your focus will be on transportation, buildings, and defence.

You will join a diverse team of passionate consultants with a proven track record of guiding our clients and leading the delivery of our most critical projects. Our team takes ownership of tough problems and consciously moves projects forward, balancing technical and commercial issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage scope and mitigate scope creep by actively engaging with technical teams.
  • Identify constraints and opportunities in complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Prepare clear and concise project plans that are actively utilised throughout delivery.
  • Develop schedules that are reliable and referenced by the team.
  • Monitor and analyse project performance, knowing when and how to course correct.
  • Collaborate with project advisors and our technical team to deliver client packages.
  • Develop and deliver project reports and engage with client counterparts.
  • Administer subcontractor arrangements, including scope, delivery, payments, insurance, reporting, and due diligence.
  • Identify and act upon opportunities to improve project management procedures, templates, and products.
  • Collaborate with commercial leaders, in-house counsel, insurance managers, and technical leads to produce fit-for-purpose internal solutions to project risks.
  • Represent best practices and support project management acumen within and beyond our team.

About You
With around 8 years of experience in project management, you will have honed your skills within or consulting to client organisations. While you may not demonstrate all of the following indicators, we encourage you to consider the role if you have experience in many of the following areas and an interest in developing in others:

  • Championing good practice and transparent, sound project decisions.
  • Holding tertiary qualifications relevant to project management, engineering, or business.
  • Working productively with a broad range of multi-disciplinary technical professionals and stakeholders to develop and deliver on scope.
  • Taking carriage of projects through their full lifecycle.
  • Being comfortable interpreting contracts and knowing when and how to seek expert advice.
  • Contributing to healthy subcontractor relationships that work for our clients.
  • Working collaboratively with clients to confirm scope and expectations and communicating this to the team in clear and concise language.
  • Enjoying consulting on energy, transport, or signature social infrastructure projects.
  • Honing your strong project skills and detailed understanding of relevant delivery strategies in Queensland.
  • Knowing when and how to exert your influence effectively.
