The increasing success and reputation of Mott MacDonald in waste and resource management services both within the UK and internationally means that we are seeking to recruit a Senior Associate Consultant to further enhance our growing and diverse team, and to support the delivery of new and exciting waste and resource management projects. We are at the leading edge in delivering projects that achieve circular economy ambitions and promote sustainable waste management practices and are looking for someone that can help lead the team and grow our global waste practice.
Our clients range from international finance institutions to waste management contractors, and from country wide ministries to investors interested in new technologies.We are therefore looking for a passionate and driven individual who has extensive expertise in technical aspects of waste and resource management, has demonstratable people management experience and is capable of leading complex projects.Mott MacDonald is an employee-owned company, and this is core to our principles of ownership and valuing people.
We are looking for a Senior Associate level consultant with at least 10 years’ experience to join our waste and resource management team, based in the UK but working on a variety of international projects. We would be very keen to talk with you if you are interested in working across a diverse portfolio of projects, delivering waste and resource management outcomes for our clients and also helping to develop our people. We are looking for someone to be based out of our Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Southampton or London city centre offices.
You will play a leading role in waste projects in a growing international market with an increasing number of multisector opportunities. This may involve working independently or as part of a team. As part of the international work, you will be required to undertake international travel from time to time.
You will need to have technical expertise, commercial acumen, and significant experience of working in the waste and environmental sector, either with a consultancy, operational or local authority background.

Essential
- Relevant academic/professional qualifications
- Chartership through a relevant organisation
- Highly experienced in the waste and resource management consultancy sector and in the technical delivery of waste infrastructure procurement projects
- An understanding of the broad principles of healthcare waste management
- Knowledge of organic and mechanical treatment systems and landfill
- Experience of working in a client-facing environment and ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes
- Significant experience in leading and managing projects with a strong emphasis on people management
- Demonstratable experience in conducting business development activities and an ability to lead and deliver high quality technical and commercial bids/proposals
- Experience in conducting thorough technical reviews
- Well organised with strong planning and management skills, with ability to produce high quality deliverables and manage budgets and programmes
- Experience working in diverse multi-disciplinary teams and leading teams to produce deliverables to a high standard
Desirable
- Experience of working on waste sector projects for developing nations
- Experience of working with international donor or lender organisations
- Experience of delivering waste management strategies and masterplans
- People management experience and supporting staff development including progression with professional qualifications
- Confident delivery of workshops or training, both online and in person
- Ability to occasionally travel internationally if required

What we need from you:
As an Associate or Senior Associate, you will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, alongside engineers, master planners, our advisory teams and a range of waste and resource management specialists.
Dependant on the area of demonstrable knowledge and experience in the waste and resource consultancy sector processes and deliverables, you may be responsible for:
- Management of project teams, budgets and programmes including project set up and through delivery phases.
- Developing scope of works and tender specifications.
- Preparation and delivery of feasibility study and technical solid waste treatment technical procurement documentation.
- Working with client and project teams to identify and deliver opportunities to achieve sustainable outcomes in line with corporate requirements, community needs and planning policy.
- Lead on the delivery of technical and commercial bid submissions.
- Providing senior support to the waste and resource team members overseeing the technical delivery of projects.
- You will be required to undertake technical checks and approvals of waste and recourse management deliverables across a range of specialist areas and undertake project reviews in line with our business and environmental management systems.
Core skills applicable to this role include the ability to influence the interests of clients, stakeholders, regulators and other government agencies, while communicating with the team to ensure project-related concerns/ opportunities are identified and addressed.
As a key member of the waste and resource management team, you will engage and influence a diverse range of internal and external clients and stakeholders, from both the public and private sector both within the UK and internationally. You will be required to lead the management of project resources, manage project budgets, provide technical guidance and oversight to staff, have a high competency in project management and with contract and risk management and undertake attendance at client meetings. You will also be required to lead the preparation of fee estimates, proposal writing and general business development activities, as well as providing technical guidance and mentoring of more junior staff members.
