Mott MacDonald is looking for professionals to join our ever-expanding transportation team here in the Western New York area. We are currently looking for a Construction Inspector IV with experience in highway, bridge, and other transportation infrastructure construction projects. The successful candidate is required to understand construction industry standards and practices in the transportation sector and have experience working on relevant public agency projects. 

 

 The successful candidate will: 

  • Have NICET IV certification or equivalent education and experience.  

  • Have previous New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and/or New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) inspection experience or related experience working on transportation infrastructure projects. 

  • Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations and safety procedures and practices related to transportation construction activities including Maintenance and Protection of Traffic requirements and guidelines. 

  • Have valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed. 

 

Description of Duties: 

  • Candidate will report to the Resident Engineer or Project Manager and be responsible for monitoring daily construction activities, overseeing senior-level inspection staff, reviewing daily field inspection reports, tracking contract payments, reviewing submittals, monitoring safety and quality requirements, and documenting project issues and conditions as needed. 

  • Maintain project records and coordinate communication between client, contractor, and other stakeholders as needed. 

  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications on construction projects and make engineering-based decisions as needed.  

 

Candidate Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years inspection experience related to highway and bridge construction including NYSDOT, NYSTA, and/or locally-administered Federal-Aid projects. 

  • Proficiency with computers and standard word processing and spreadsheet software applications. 

  • Experience with NYSDOT Site Manager, Appia, and similar applications preferred. 

  • Familiarity with NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK) preferred.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

 

The expected salary for this position is $88,000 - $107,000.
