Locally, we are leading challenging projects and providing design expertise on projects across the northeast division of Mott MacDonald.. Our office in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Principal Engineer specializing in bridges. 

As a Principal Bridge Engineer you will predominantly be involved with bridge or civil structure projects, but will also have exposure to different structural projects. You will work across related transportation projects and design individual bridge projects.   

 

You will have responsibilities to a variety of duties; actively participating in:

  • Developing and evaluating plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and proposing the most cost-effective solution

  • Analyzing technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions

  • Designing and developing plans and drawings, which may include the development of preliminary layout and/or final drawings

  • Researching the feasibility of alternative design approaches for compliance with regulatory agency specifications

  • Field investigations, inspections, and repair recommendations providing  project management responsibilities for leading your infrastructure projects as well as taking a forward-facing role with the client plan and review the production of engineering drawings, specifications, engineering investigations and planning work

  • Leading junior professionals and technical personnel on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans

  • Coordinating with all staff, including other disciplines, to maintain project execution and control to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through final design

  • Supervising and/or participating in quality control checks, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, checking computations, and/or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others

  • Assisting with creating project scope, cost and manpower estimates, schedules and job budgets

  • Providing guidance and support to younger engineers, fostering their professional growth through mentorship and knowledge sharing

 

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in engineering with a structural emphasis, a MSc is a plus

  • 12+ years in Highway Bridge design including Project Management experience with transportation projects

  • Registered as a professional engineer (PE) in NY or ability to obtain within a reasonable amount of time is preferred

  • Experience working on structural bridge design projects for DOTs preferred

  • Proven technical writing and communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including organization and attention to detail

  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position

  • Familiarity with Bentley products and/or AutoDesk, and bridge design software such as LARSA, SAP 2000, STAAD Pro, OpenBridge, CsiBridge, MIDAS, AASHTOWARE Bridge Rating, and MDX

Salary Range: $149,000 - $182,000
