At Mott MacDonald, we take pride in designing solutions that elevate mobility and enhance communities. As a Civil Engineer-In-Training, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engage with stakeholders, and take projects from concept through detailed design and construction.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse array of transportation infrastructure assignments from highway and municipal road projects to multi-modal corridors and site development schemes. The successful candidate will contribute to the geometric design of roadways, develop comprehensive road drainage systems, and lead site servicing strategies that integrate utilities and access. Grading design and earthworks planning will also be central to this role, with a focus on constructability and environmental performance.
As a Civil EIT, your role responsibilities are expected to include:
- Collaborate as part of multidisciplinary project teams to develop and review civil engineering designs, ensuring quality, consistency, and coordination across disciplines.
- Prepare and deliver civil engineering designs for land development, municipal infrastructure, roadway/highway, and utility projects in accordance with applicable standards, guidelines, and client requirements.
- Develop design packages including grading, servicing, stormwater management, roadway geometry, utility layouts, and site development plans.
- Deliver packages of work with the assistance of other technical and production staff while maintaining schedule and budget requirements.
- Provide technical guidance, oversight, and mentorship to intermediate and junior staff undertaking design and drafting activities.
- Support the planning, design, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects, ensuring successful outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with utility agencies, municipalities, contractors, and regulatory authorities throughout the design and project delivery process.
- Apply sound civil engineering principles and practices related to roadway design, municipal servicing, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility coordination, and land development infrastructure.
You will have experience in transportation infrastructure and possess the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; a Master's degree is considered an asset.
- Registered Engineer-In-training (BC/BA)) or a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible to obtain registration within one year.
- 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in civil engineering design, with a focus on roadway/highway projects, municipal infrastructure, utilities, and/or land development.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles, industry standards, and municipal requirements.
- Experience preparing technical reports, design briefs, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience with utility design, relocation, and coordination is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with municipal approvals, permitting processes, and stakeholder coordination.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Positive, collaborative, and client-focused approach to project delivery.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and project partners.
- Proficiency with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, and other civil engineering design tools.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
The expected salary range for this position is from $84,000 - $103,000.
