Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Pipeline Stress Engineer to support the design, analysis, and delivery of pipeline systems for industrial, energy, water, and process facilities. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will perform piping stress and flexibility analyses, develop engineering deliverables, and provide technical support throughout project execution.
This position is ideal for an engineer with a solid foundation in pipe stress analysis who is looking to expand their technical expertise while contributing to complex projects from concept through construction.
Key responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

Perform pipe stress and flexibility analysis using industry-standard software such as AutoPIPE or CAESAR II.

Analyze pipeline systems for thermal expansion, sustained loads, pressure loads, occasional loads, seismic, wind, and dynamic conditions.

Develop stress isometrics, support recommendations, and restraint configurations.

Coordinate with piping, mechanical, structural, process, and civil engineering teams to ensure integrated design solutions.

Review piping layouts and provide recommendations to optimize system performance, constructability, and reliability.

Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.

Support the design and selection of pipe supports, spring supports, expansion joints, and related components.

Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, constructability reviews, and client meetings.

Assist with field investigations, commissioning support, and resolution of site-related technical issues when required.

Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and quality management procedures.
The successful candidate will possess the below skills, qualifications and experience:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

10-15 years of relevant experience in pipe stress analysis and piping design.

Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada or already registered.

Experience using pipe stress analysis software such as AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, or equivalent.

Strong understanding of piping engineering principles, flexibility analysis, and support design.

Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards, including CSA Z662, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, and related design standards.

Ability to interpret P&IDs, piping layouts, isometrics, and engineering drawings.

Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of technical quality.
Preferred qualifications:
-
Experience supporting energy, water treatment, industrial processing, petrochemical, hydrogen, or carbon capture projects.

Knowledge of dynamic analysis, vibration assessment, and fatigue evaluation.

Experience with 3D design platforms such as Plant 3D, SmartPlant, E3D, or OpenPlant.

Experience working on EPC, design-build, or major infrastructure projects.

Experience utilizing general purpose finite element analysis programs such as ANSYS

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
The expected salary range for this position is from $125,000 - $155,000.
