Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Structural energy team in Calgary, AB. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will work alongside of project leaders, technical experts, and reputed consultants and specialists in delivering energy and power infrastructure projects to our clients across North America.

 

As a Senior Structural Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Develop design criteria, engineering specifications, design calculations, and material take-offs (MTOs) in alignment with project requirements.
  • Analyze and resolve complex engineering challenges requiring detailed, multi disciplinary evaluation.
  • Interpret geotechnical reports and design foundations in accordance with geotechnical recommendations.
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and peer review to junior team members.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and field verifications as needed.
  • Produce detailed civil and structural designs, including concrete foundations, piling systems, and steel structures.
  • Prepare engineering documentation such as budgets, schedules, work plans, tender packages, technical reports, and project calculations.
  • Direct and support technical staff by assigning tasks and providing clear instructions.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
  • Ensure quality assurance, consistency, and accurate electronic handover of engineering deliverables.
  • Review and stamp engineering drawings as required, applying sound knowledge of design codes and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and respond to inquiries regarding project deliverables.

 

To be considered for this position, you’ll need:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) within the province of Alberta (APEGA). PE will be considered as an asset.
  • 10+ years and over experience in the engineering of civil structural designs in energy industry
  • Demonstrable experience with Substation design, dynamic foundations, Transmission line foundation design, facility engineering.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members
  • Strong working knowledge of software’s like SAP2000, RISA3D, All Pile, LPile and MFAD, Bluebeam Revu, MS office, Navis Works
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes for Concrete and Steel Structures, and current Industrial standards.
  • A team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Solid organization and time management skills.
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Follow client standards

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

 

 

The expected salary range for this position is from $126,000 - $154,000.
