About the business unit  
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.   

 

About the role:

Our office-based department provides Civil and Structural expertise across Substation, Overhead Line, and Cable projects. Our projects include feasibility, consenting, outline and detailed design.

We are looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing Energy Team based in Cardiff or Bristol. The role will span a diverse portfolio of work and there will be opportunities for advancement within the team. The selected candidate will carry out work on Energy Generation, Transmission and Distribution sectors on wind farm connections, converter station, high voltage substation, overhead line, cable and hydrogen projects, fulfilling tasks including:

  • Project Management.
  • Proposal Writing.
  • Scheme Costings.
  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED).
  • Preparation of drawings for use in planning applications and tender packages.
  • Detailed Civil/Structural Design.
  • Cable Routing Design.
  • Design Coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Preparation of Specifications.
  • Condition and Structural Assessment of existing structures.

 
About you:

  • At the outset we would expect some experience in most of the named areas, but should your application be successful, you will have the opportunity to learn from other team members and to further develop your skills.
  • Currently expertise within the team covers a broad spectrum of civil engineering, including but not limited to:
  • Structural engineering design.
  • Access & highways design.
  • Earthworks assessments.
  • Flood risk and drainage design.
  • Overhead line and cable routeing design.

 

Any prospective candidate should highlight their experience within the above areas of civil engineering. We do not expect candidates to have experience within all areas, we are open to both specialists and generalists.

  • Candidates applying for this role must have a degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
  • They should be working towards Chartership or recently Chartered with the ICE or IStructE.
  • The role requires a strong willingness to embrace new challenges and the ability to work confidently on tasks. Demonstrate proficiency in written communication, including report writing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the role is client-facing, involving interactions with clients and contractors both on-site and over the phone.

 

Prospective candidates should also be ready to undertake short-term site visits as necessary to meet with clients and contractors.
