Mott MacDonald is seeking a highly motivated Hydraulics/Drainage Engineer with extensive experience in large-scale, complex transportation infrastructure projects to join our dynamic team in our Chicago office.
This is an excellent opportunity to exercise your hydrological/hydraulic analyses and drainage calculations experience to serve as a lead Hydraulics/Drainage Engineer on roadway and bridge improvement projects in Illinois. This role may include interfacing and reporting to key clients, monitoring and managing budgets and schedules, and general project coordination. As a lead Hydraulics/Drainage Engineer, you will lead and execute tasks on multi-disciplinary projects.

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform hydrological/hydraulic analyses, modeling and drainage calculations.
- Analyze existing drainage systems, including contour maps, drainage areas, and watersheds.
- Perform hydraulic modeling and analyses to design proposed drainage systems including storm sewer systems, box culverts, detention facilities, and restrictor orifices.
- Prepare IDOT-compliant Location Drainage Studies (LDS) and coordinate with local municipalities.
- Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates of time and construction for detailed design projects.
- Support business development initiatives, including preparation of proposals.

Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering, or a related field, from an accredited university.
- 4+ years of professional engineering experience as a Hydraulics/Drainage Engineer.
- PE license in the state of Illinois or the ability to obtain it within 6 months.
- Technical knowledge of IDOT’s Phase I and Phase II design processes for roadways and bridges.
- Experience complying with IDOT D1’s drainage planning, design, and permitting requirements.
- Demonstrable knowledge of IDOT’s BDE, BLRS, and Drainage Manuals.
- Ability to scope and estimate hydraulics/drainage tasks and lead drainage coordination efforts.
- Competent verbal and technical writing communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.

The expected salary for this position is $97,000 - $119,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
