Senior Project Engineer - Bridges

Our Chicago office is looking to add a Senior Project Engineer - Bridges to join our team. You will be involved with bridge or civil structure projects for bridges, railways, highways, and transportation related projects.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional engineering services including technical specifications, design criteria and intent, constructability reviews and staging plans for new and rehab structural projects
- Deliver high quality and cost-effective structural evaluation and design solutions for bridge/highway/transportation structure support projects using internal and external sources
- Deliver the analysis, development, and implementation of structural designs for mid to large, complex, multi-modal, and major highway expansion projects involving functional, preliminary, and detailed designs
- Supervise licensed and non-licensed professionals including assignment of work, mentoring, performance planning and development in the field of structural engineering and state bridge design standards and best practices
- Supervise and/or provide structural assessments including, condition, load capacity, service life, rehabilitation and functional needs, life cycle costing, and renewal options analysis
- Supervise and/or provide structural inspection and assessment reports including having the ability to travel, on a short notice, for emergency response or to assess structural integrity of highway infrastructure. ·
- Assist project managers in the development of scope, schedule & budget as it relates to the structural discipline
- Supervise or provide field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents
- Supervise or provide engineering services during construction and project close out with record drawings
- Build client relationships through performance, service, effective communication, and by identifying and meeting client needs
- Apply a quality management system for structural engineering design projects including quality control and assurance procedures, checks, and independent reviews at different phases of designs
- Some travel will be required
The succesful candidate will have any/all the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in civil, architectural, or structural engineering from an accredited college or university
- 7-15 years of relevant work experience in structural bridge design
- A SE license in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months
- Relevant experience working on structural bridge design projects in Illinois
- Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations
- Experienced with construction specs and erection plans and requirements for large structural elements
- Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Document for Illinois
- Familiarity with AutoDesk and Bentley products, and bridge design software such as LARSA, SAP 2000, STAAD Pro, OpenBridge, CsiBridge, MIDAS, AASHTOWARE Bridge Rating, and MDX
- Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
