About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

 


Overview of the role
We are seeking an experienced Highways Engineer / Technician to be part of our Transport and Mobility Solutions Division in the UK. The position is based at our Colwyn Bay / Cardiff office and offers excellent opportunities to design highway infrastructure projects for local Councils, highway authorities and private sector organisations.

 

Although this role is located in Wales, you will be expected to collaborate with our wider business across the UK and overseas.

 

The role offers the successful applicant the opportunity to develop their skills and progress their career working as a part of a team of innovative engineers and specialists.

 

You will contribute to a wide range of project types, expected input to include:

  • Contributing to the successful delivery of highways/infrastructure projects
  • Preparing detailed highway design drawings using CAD software
  • Developing project plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Supporting the planning and design phases of local highway schemes
  • Providing technical advice and solutions as part of a project team

 

 

Candidate specification

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum HNC qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Working towards or possess Incorporated Engineer status
  • Proficient in AutoCAD software, with experience in highway or transportation design
  • Experience and/or familiarity of the working with Welsh clients
  • IT and standard industry software skills, including knowledge of Building Information Management (BIM)
  • Able to communicate confidently and professionally with colleagues, fellow professionals and clients at all levels (written and verbal)

 

We require a combination of the following competencies / skills:

  • Understanding of design standards including: Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) / Standards for Highways / Manual for Streets
  • Knowledge of highway design and drainage principals
  • Knowledge and experience of using design tools, for example AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads and InfoDrainage
  • Have capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required
  • Experience of preparing detailed construction drawings and standard details and technical specifications
  • Understand personal and corporate Health and Safety responsibilities
