About the business unit
Mott MacDonald’s support services are the driving force behind our organisation enabling us to run efficiently and effectively. The team works collaboratively to offer specialist advice, best practice and technology to all areas of our business specifically designed for our global reach.
We are looking for a financial accountant with an understanding and practical experience of preparing consolidated financial statements to support our group financial accounts teams. We will require an individual to assist the team in preparing and reviewing consolidated quarterly and annual financial accounts, and in the monthly review of intercompany and other balance sheet account reconciliations. The individual will also assist the group reporting team in producing financial models and forecasts. Key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the preparation and review of quarterly and annual consolidated financial accounts for the Group which includes in excess of 50 subsidiary companies, many of which are overseas, and preparation/review of statutory notes and disclosures.
- Processing of consolidation journals for the quarterly and annual consolidated accounts.
- Assisting in the creation of appropriate schedules for quarterly reporting, for example cash flow statement workings, investments, goodwill, covenants and KPI’s.
- Assisting in producing the intercompany matrix and helping group financial accounting to monitor intercompany indebtedness between group entities and resolving any differences.
- Assisting in the preparation and review of commentaries, graphs and ratios in the quarterly and annual group consolidated accounts.
- Assisting in the preparation and review of statutory accounts for some centrally maintained companies.
- Assist in the final review of locally prepared statutory accounts for subsidiary entities across the group.
- Preparation and review of intercompany and other balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis including processing of any currency revaluation journals.
- Assist in ensuring that entities in the group comply with group financial policies, principles and controls for financial reporting and financial management including preparation for implementation of the requirements of new financial reporting standards.
- Ensure compliance with group directives and procedures on financial matters.
- Providing guidance to group entity accountants on group quarterly reporting and consolidation.
- Supporting external audits, such as preparing information for audit queries.
- Providing support to the group reporting team on ad hoc tasks or projects as required eg. producing forecast financial statements/models based on agreed assumptions and supporting the building, testing and rolling out of new group consolidation software and maintenance thereafter including input and output reports.
Candidate Specification
To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- An understanding and practical experience of consolidations.
- Be up to date with technical standards applicable for UK GAAP and UK Companies Act.
- Be a qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA) (desirable).
- Must be a good communicator (both written and verbal).
- Strong Excel skills to an intermediate to high level.
- Strong analytical skills with a good eye for detail.
- Ability to see tasks through to conclusion.
- Ability to work well in a team.
