About the business unit 
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

 

 

Overview of the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking Expressions of Interest from talented individuals with a strong background in tunnel and underground infrastructure projects in both project and engineering leadership roles. This is a great opportunity to support the continued growth of our global tunnelling practice

 

Our team is recognised as a leader in the planning, design and delivery of complex underground infrastructure across transportation, water, energy and mining markets. From major rail and metro systems to strategic water conveyance schemes and underground civil infrastructure, we deliver technically challenging projects that make a lasting difference to communities around the world.

 

As our portfolio continues to expand, we are looking for experienced professionals who are passionate about technical excellence, collaborative delivery and innovation within the tunnelling sector. In particular we are interested in those who are pushing boundaries in digital delivery. We are looking for a range of experience levels, from chartered engineers up to senior technical and project leaders with demonstrable experience with Civil Engineering projects.

 

We are interested in hearing from individuals with experience in project management and tunnel engineering, where your role would involve:

 

Project Management:

  • Leadership and delivery of multidisciplinary tunnel projects
  • Client and stakeholder management
  • Programme, commercial and risk management
  • Delivery within design-build and collaborative delivery environments
  • Coordination of international project teams

 

Tunnel Engineering:

  • TBM tunnels and segmental lining design
  • Underground structures, shafts and caverns
  • SEM/NATM and drill-and-blast tunnelling
  • Geotechnical and tunnel engineering integration
  • Design management and technical assurance
  • Construction support and site-based engineering services

 

Depending on role and experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Leading the successful delivery of tunnel and underground infrastructure projects
  • Managing multidisciplinary teams across geotechnical, civil, structural and MEP disciplines
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring to developing engineers
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Managing project scope, programme, budget and risk
  • Supporting bids, proposals and business development activities
  • Driving innovation, digital engineering and best practice across project delivery
  • Contributing to the ongoing growth and reputation of Mott MacDonald’s global tunnelling discipline

 

 

Candidate specification

The ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in tunnel and underground infrastructure projects
  • Strong technical, project management or design management capability
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A commitment to technical excellence, safety and innovation
  • Experience on major infrastructure projects involving rail, metro, highways, water or hydroelectric tunnels would be particularly valuable
