Job profile
The Group Finance Compliance and Governance Accountant is an important new role that will be responsible for informing and advising in the development of the Group’s financial compliance function.

 

The position is based in Croydon.

 


Overview of the role
We are looking for an experienced financial accountant with an interest in corporate governance and controls to join our Financial Compliance and Governance team based in Croydon.


This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join the business and help build up the programme and contribute to the development of the Group’s Financial Compliance and Governance function.


As Group Finance Compliance and Governance Accountant you will report to the Group Finance Compliance and Governance Manager. Your key duties will include:

  • Assisting in developing and improving the governance and internal controls environment around financial processes across the Group
  • Reviewing, maintaining, and developing Group Directives/policies and Finance and Accounting manuals
  • Summarising and communicating the requirements of future changes to UK Accounting Standards and the UK Corporate Governance framework to the key stakeholders both within the team and the wider business
  • Assisting in developing and delivering a programme to implement changes to meet the requirements identified as a result of the above, liaising with other Group functions where required
  • Looking at systems and software to help improve the control environment e.g. exception reporting, GRC tools, anomaly detection etc
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other members of the team and assisting in developing training material where required
  • Assisting in coordinating the completion and review of the group’s internal controls matrices
  • Assisting in reviewing financial statements of subsidiary entities before finalisation, including reconciliation of subsidiary statutory accounts to the consolidation packs submitted for group consolidation purposes
  • Helping the Group strategy team with financial aspects of acquisitions and divestments, including support with due diligence
  • Assisting in review of internal audit reports, validating findings and helping to ensure corrective actions are appropriately closed out

 


Candidate specification
Essential:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to produce clear and concise technical information and reports
  • Able to establish good working relationships with colleagues in other functions and work collaboratively
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills in relation to stakeholder management

 

Desirable:

  • Internal/external audit experience
  • Good knowledge of internal controls and risks within main process areas
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of implementing Internal Financial Controls (e.g. SOX) in a large company, or working in a consultancy providing a similar service
  • Experience of providing support for corporate transaction (acquisitions and divestments)
