Our Energy team has experience working on Marinus Link, Project EnergyConnect, the NSW Renewable energy zones, CuString 2.0 and large pumped hydro projects in the NEM that are essential to support the increased penetration of renewables. We have many years of experience connecting generation to customers, with projects ranging from OE roles, lenders technical advisors to detailed substation and transmission and design services.

As a key member of our expanding Networks team, your primary role will be to deliver high-quality Transmission and Distribution (T&D) services across our core markets—Renewables, Hydro, Mining & Industry, and Energy Advisory. Depending on your level of expertise joining Motts in a senior capacity you may also play a key role in multidisciplinary project delivery and strategic client engagement, leveraging Mott MacDonald’s global capability to drive excellence across all our development and design services within this market. You will be recognised in the industry for your acute technical knowledge and market awareness. Which will be reflected internally within Motts as being recognised as our SME in this field.
- Deliver expert technical input across a diverse range of high-voltage transmission and distribution projects (up to 500kV), aligning with Mott MacDonald’s quality assurance frameworks and client-specific technical requirements.
- Coordinate and develop project design deliverables including Design Management Plans, Document Control Strategies, Interface Matrices, and Master Document Registers in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Manage and mentor multi-disciplinary design teams to originate, peer review, and approve comprehensive T&D design packages across greenfield and brownfield developments.
- Represent Mott MacDonald as a technical ambassador within the energy sector, contributing thought leadership through conference participation, whitepapers, and industry forums.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote innovation by engaging with clients to identify performance-enhancing solutions and value-added opportunities across the project lifecycle.
About You:
- A degree-qualified electrical engineer with demonstrated expertise in transmission and distribution infrastructure projects (22kV to 500kV), ideally within utility, renewable energy, or heavy industrial settings.
- Deep understanding of Australian standards, National Electricity Rules (NER), and utility-specific technical and design guidelines.
- Proven experience leading the design and delivery of complex multi-disciplinary projects within consulting or utility owner/operator environments.
- Strong capability in the preparation and technical review of connection studies, risk assessments, and feasibility reports.
- Offshore wind or HVDC experience is advantageous but not essential.
