About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle.
Overview of the role
It’s an exciting time for our Ports, Coastal & Offshore Teams with major project success and workload growth. Mott MacDonald is one of the global leaders in maritime, advising a broad range of clients:
- In the planning, design and construction of a range of ports and other marine terminal infrastructure
- With development of sustainable solutions for our coastlines
- In design and delivery of offshore renewable energy schemes and inter-connectors
We work across all stages in the project cycle, from developing business cases, feasibility studies and front-end design to detailed engineering, and then onto tendering, contract administration, construction supervision and maintenance.
Join us to shape the future of ports, coastal and offshore energy in Ireland. We are looking to appoint a Principal Maritime Engineer with experience in the Irish market who will join our Team and grow our portfolio in Ireland.
Preferably based in either Dublin or Cork, you will lead business development activities for the maritime market in Ireland, including bidding and work winning using your knowledge of clients, Office of Public Works, public procurement processes and your understanding of the technical requirements and risks associated with maritime prospects.
You will lead client engagement activities and build strong and trusted relationships with clients, authorities and contractors in the maritime market in Ireland.
You will drive business growth and raise our profile across Ireland.
You will use your high standard of technical capability to deliver projects within the maritime sector, and guide and develop other members of the team on technical aspects of projects. You will be involved in leading technical projects, including quay structures, jetties, dolphins, dredging, breakwaters, coast protection and cable routing/ landfalls.
You will collaborate with colleagues in a constructive manner on projects, sharing knowledge freely and work constructively to bring projects to a successful outcome to meet or exceed targeted profit, deadlines and output quality.
You will participate and represent Mott MacDonald in industry events and technical forums.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who is client-facing and blends technical excellence with commercial insight, driving innovation, winning work and influencing the future of the maritime sector in Ireland.
Candidate specification
You will be able to demonstrate the following:
- A degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered through a relevant professional institution
- Proven record in business development and client relationship management
- Proven ability of commercial and financial competency and preparation of fee proposals
- Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and other team members and enjoy building relationship networks
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail and be able to demonstrate accurate technical analysis and good report writing
- Methodical approach to problem solving
- Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
- Proven experience in successfully delivering significant maritime projects using innovative and digitally driven techniques, and leading others in the delivery of the same
- Strong knowledge in the application of relevant maritime design standards and guidelines
- Full, clean driving licence in order to visit clients and project sites across Ireland
