Overview of the role
Join our award-winning healthcare team and help shape the future of healthcare infrastructure across the UK and Ireland. As one of the world's leading employee-owned engineering consultancies, we are delivering some of the most complex and high-profile healthcare programmes in the sector, including major acute hospital developments, Community Diagnostic Centres, specialist treatment facilities, mental health estates, and large-scale refurbishment and decarbonisation programmes for HSE, NHS Trusts, Health Boards and private healthcare providers.
Our healthcare business brings together electrical, mechanical, public health, digital, sustainability and specialist advisory services to deliver integrated solutions that improve patient outcomes and create resilient, future-ready facilities. You will have the opportunity to work alongside nationally recognised healthcare leaders andmultidisciplinary teams delivering projects from strategic planning and business case development through to detailed design, construction and handover.
As a Technical Principal, you will provide technical leadership across a portfolio of healthcare projects while supporting the growth and development of our Building Services team. You will be part of a national healthcare leadership network and will typically lead multidisciplinary MEP teams comprising engineers, technicians and graduate engineers. Depending on project requirements and team structure, you may also provide line management, mentoring and technical oversight to junior and intermediate engineers, supporting their professional development and progression towards chartership.
You will be expected to lead the technical delivery of complex healthcare projects, ensuring compliance with HTM, HBN, BS 7671, CIBSE, HSE requirements and local authority approvals and other sector-specific standards. The role will involve overseeing design quality, managing project resources, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and supporting project directors in delivering projects to programme and budget. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, participate in design reviews and provide technical assurance across major healthcare commissions.
The successful candidate will utilise industry-leading digital tools and technologies including BIM and Revit, Navisworks, digital engineering workflows, building performance modelling, and advanced healthcare planning tools. You will also contribute to the adoption of innovative engineering solutions that enhance operational resilience, energy performance and patient experience.
Sustainability is embedded within everything we do. You will help drive low-carbon design strategies, electrification of heat, embodied carbon reduction, circular economy principles, net-zero carbon pathways and whole-life asset optimisation. Working closely with our sustainability specialists, you will support clients in achieving their environmental and social value objectives while delivering technically robust healthcare facilities. In addition to technical delivery, you will play a key role in work winning and business growth. This includes supporting bids, framework appointments and interview presentations, developing client relationships, identifying new opportunities, contributing to fee proposals, and helping shape our healthcare market strategy.
You will be expected to provide technical input into major pursuits and support the development of our healthcare pipeline across the UK and Ireland.
