Overview of the role

Due to recent project wins and with further exciting opportunities in the pipeline, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy Transition business in the Genoa office, supporting thermal detailed design, owner's engineer and technical advisory assignments.

The role will contribute to multi-disciplinary project delivery for thermal and wider energy clients, working with colleagues in Italy, UK and internationally. You will work closely with our existing team members, clients and subcontractors to build on this success and be a key part of Mott MacDonald’s Energy Transition team’s growth in Italy.

This is an opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to take responsibility for defined technical work packages, produce and check high-quality engineering deliverables and support client-facing advisory work while developing your career toward higher levels of technical and project leadership.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Deliver mechanical engineering input to thermal projects from feasibility and FEED through to detailed design, construction support and operational advisory work
  • Prepare, review and check mechanical calculations, specifications, datasheets, equipment schedules, layouts, technical notes and design reports
  • Support thermal plant design activities, including balance of plant systems, process/mechanical interfaces, equipment selection, piping and plant layout coordination
  • Undertake owner's engineer and technical advisory work, including design reviews, technical due diligence, tender support, contractor deliverable reviews and site-related technical assessments
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, process, controls and environmental colleagues to develop integrated and buildable engineering solutions
  • Manage allocated work packages, budgets and programme commitments, escalating risks and issues promptly to the project manager or technical lead
  • Engage professionally with clients, contractors and suppliers, contributing to meetings, workshops and technical submissions
  • Apply relevant legislation, codes, standards and Mott MacDonald quality processes, ensuring safety, sustainability and constructability are considered in design outputs
  • Support and mentor graduate and less experienced engineers through checking, guidance and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to bids, scopes of work and delivery plans where mechanical engineering input is required
