The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
About this role:
Due to new project wins and continued growth, we’re recruiting a Principal Nuclear HVAC Engineer to join our Power, Process & Nuclear division. Our team delivers projects to a wide range of clients across the defence and nuclear new-build industry and offers the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting projects in the industry - there’s never been a better time to join us!
This role combines technical leadership with strategic project responsibilities, providing an excellent opportunity for career growth. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to influence major projects while mentoring and inspiring the next generation of engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead HVAC aspects of multi-discipline design projects, from feasibility to detailed design stages. Oversee and approve documentation such as assessment/condition reports, survey reports, basis of designs, and procurement specifications.
- Manage and review detailed design drawings, layouts, and schematics, including heating, ventilation, LTHW, chilled water, specialist LEV, and BMS installations.
- Guide the delivery of high-quality written work, including functional specifications, basis of design, equipment specifications, and validation and verification plans.
- Lead the preparation of project estimates, including equipment and man-hour costs.
- Take responsibility for ensuring compliance with construction (design and management) regulations across multiple projects.
- Manage and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams to support their growth and ensure project success.
- Drive project delivery, including resource planning, client engagement, and coordination of technical input.
- Provide technical leadership to support bids and estimates, including developing innovative solutions to complex challenges.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent collaboration and delivery of client needs.
- Chair and present at internal and external stakeholder meetings, representing the business at a senior level.
Candidate Specification:
- Chartered status with the IMechE or other relevant professional body (or equivalent experience with progress toward chartered status).
- Demonstrable experience in HVAC design within a highly regulated industry, preferably nuclear
- Ideally in-depth knowledge of nuclear ventilation guidelines and standards.
- Broad knowledge of industry standards, legislation, and engineering principles.
- Strong commercial awareness, with experience in FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) projects.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Capable of managing and prioritising multiple projects.
- Client-facing experience, with the ability to maintain and build strong client relationships.
- Committed to continuous professional development and staying abreast of industry advancements.
