Assistant Health & Safety Engineer

Job description:
Reporting to the Team Leader and working closely with the Construction Management Engineers and the other Senior Assistant Engineer for Health and Safety, will perform the services detailed below.
- Review Contractors’ Health and Safety Plans, health and safety risk assessments, and method statements;
- Day-to-day monitoring of the Contractors’ compliance with their Health and Safety Plans;
- Regular health and safety walkthrough inspections on site in close cooperation with Construction Management Engineers, Employer, and Contractor;
- Implement follow-up actions in case of non-compliance, including verbal warning on site, drafting health and safety-related letters, and recording all non-compliances, incidents, and follow-up actions;
- Record and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to determine root causes and propose corrective actions to prevent recurrence;
- Provide safety training to colleagues on topics such as hazard identification, safe work practices, and the use of PPE;
- Demonstrate exemplary health and safety behaviour by being an example for all colleagues;
- Assessing incoming health and safety-related correspondence from the Contractor and defining and coordinating follow-up actions;
- Assisting in health and safety-related project and construction progress reporting;
Candidate specification
Key skills, experience and qualifications:
- Completed university education in Occupational Health and Safety, or in Irrigation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or a similar engineering programme with a focus on water;
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, both in a team and individually, and demonstrate strong time-management skills;
- Sound conceptual and analytical skills;
- Excellent communication and networking skills, including good spoken and written English;
- Construction health and safety certification (Ahli K3 Konstruksi or similar) would be an advantage;
- A few years of professional experience related to health and safety of water resources engineering would be an advantage.

Project Description:
Euroconsult Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the PPK Perencanaan dan Program, Satuan Kerja Balai Besar Wilayah Sungai Sumatera VIII of the Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Government of Indonesia (the Client) to implement Consulting Services for the JICA-funded Komering Irrigation Project (Phase 3). The project consists of irrigation system design, procurement support, construction management and supervision, institutional support, irrigation modernisation and project benefit monitoring and evaluation.
