Trainee Disability Inclusion

Job Description:
The Early Career Professional (ECP) - Disability Inclusion will work alongside two key teams focusing on foundational learning and out-of-school adolescents. This position is cross-cutting with ECP being responsible for championing inclusive practices within all programme activities. The ECP will be supported to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Participate in an induction programme for new team members.
- Demonstrate and champion strong safeguarding principles and adhere to the LIFT Safeguarding Policy.
- Demonstrate exemplary ethical behaviours and practices.
- Participate in and support delivery of training sessions for teachers and community members on inclusive education practices.
- Support development and review of training materials and other programme resources through disability inclusive lens.
- Carry out field visits to support implementation and monitoring efforts related to disability awareness and inclusive education.
- Support organisation of and co-facilitate training sessions focused on raising awareness about disability, learning difficulties and inclusive practices.
- Collaborate with grantees of the LIFT Out of School Children and Youth component to ensure inclusive practices are incorporated into activities of grantees.
- Assist in identification of data gaps and data collection.
- Perform regular follow-ups on collection and reporting of disability disaggregated data across the programme (also by the grantees).
- Contribute to writing progress reports, lessons learnt, case studies and collecting data to inform regular programme reviews and better inclusion of persons with disabilities across education sector.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and analysis of research studies related to disability inclusion and inclusive education.
- Keep up to date with latest international research on what works in inclusive education, track FCDO documents and policy statements on disability inclusion and inclusive education and pro-actively suggest appropriate program alignment.
- Participate in coordination meetings with relevant government ministries, FCDO and other development partners and feed into the LIFT program accordingly.
- Support organisation of disability related programme events, inclusive of conferences and forums.
- Provide inputs to other programme activities as needs arise.
Work location: Gasabo with frequent travel to Kirehe, Gisagara, Gakenke, Karongi, Ngororero and Rusizi
Candidate Specification:
- Must be a Rwandan Citizen
- Must have graduated in 2024
- Must have studied Inclusive or Special Education
- Must have attained a First-Class Honors Bachelor’s Degree
- Fluent in spoken and written English and Kinyarwanda
- Fluency in Rwandan Sign Language will be treated as an advantage
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Project Description:
Mott MacDonald-Cambridge Education is implementing the Learning and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) in Rwanda programme. LIFT is a programme of the Ministry of Education that is funded by the UK Government through FCDO and aims to improve foundational learning outcomes for children in English and mathematics in Rwanda’s primary schools. LIFT also supports adolescents aged 12-17 to return to formal education or access alternative education pathways and enables access to education for children with disabilities.
In an effort to build new cadre of education specialists, Cambridge Education will engage a team of Early Career Professionals (ECP), recent graduates of degree programmes, who feel passionate about making positive changes in education sector in Rwanda.
This call is for applicants who will focus on promoting disability inclusive approaches in education sector. There is one position available. The selected Early Career Professional will work at the central Cambridge Education Office in Kigali and will be required to regularly travel to Districts. The ECP will work alongside mid-level and senior professionals and will be provided with on-the-job support which will result in direct and positive contribution towards improving Rwanda’s education system.
