Mott MacDonald is looking to welcome a CAD Technician to join our team as part of our team in North America. This individual will be a core part of a team to develop and implement fundamental standards and specifications instrumental to project delivery.

 

Role purpose:

  • This position will serve our portfolio of work across our offices in the Mid-West and Mid-Atlantic regions where our service offerings are increasing
  • The primary purpose of this role is to support the design and engineering teams by creating and modifying technical drawings using CAD and other drafting software.
  • This entry-level position focuses on learning civil design standards, understanding site development workflows, and producing accurate drawings for infrastructure projects such as utilities, grading, and drainage systems

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing bid ready drawing sets that can include civil site plans, grading plans, and utility profiles
  • Maintain organized digital files and drawing sets, ensuring version control and proper documentation
  • Utilize multiple design software tools, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Revit, to develop and coordinate civil engineering drawings and models
  • Develop drawings from verbal instructions, preliminary layouts, sketches or marked-up prints utilizing conventional drafting tools and/or computer assisted design/drafting programs
  • Assists in preliminary layout of complex assignments to define appropriate drawings and information
  • Performs drafting to accepted company, client and national standards, e.g., symbols, nomenclatures, engineering terms, etc
  • Prepares design modifications from provided sketches and data when prototypes are not available
  • Makes freehand sketches of designs and ideas for use within the engineering environment
  • Verifies completed work, checks dimensions, and determines required materials
  • Keeps abreast of improved drafting techniques, standards, practices, engineering procedures, and manufacturing capabilities to enhance discipline knowledge
  • Continuous collaboration with engineers and project team to ensure that all deliverables meet project requirements and standards

 

Candidate Specifications:

  • Associate or Technical Degree in CAD, Survey, Construction, from an accredited institution or acceptable equivalent
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software
  • Revit and Civil 3D software knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Arc GIS Pro
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering concepts such as grading, utilities and site layout
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior designers and multi-discplinary teams, to resolve complex issues and maintain effective working relationships
  • Strong communication skills including effective time management and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines

The expected salary for this position is $57,000-$67,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
