Mott MacDonald is looking for a construction professional to join our ever-expanding team in  Southern California. Specifically, we are looking for a qualified Assistant Resident Engineer .

Key Responsibilities:

Project Documentation & Closeout
  • Assist in preparing project closeout documentation for multiple projects.
  • Maintain organized project records within the document management system.
  • Meet regularly with the Owner’s Engineer (OE) to ensure all documentation is accurate and current.

Project Controls & Change Management

  • Support the preparation and evaluation of modifications, change orders, cost analyses, and pre‑negotiation plans.
  • Track and manage changes, maintaining detailed change logs and master logs for systematic oversight.
  • Conduct technical and contractual analysis for change orders, including drafting scopes of work.
  • Review potential change requests or PSA requests for merit and develop supporting documentation.
  • Prepare Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost estimates for project changes, PSAs, and RFCs.
  • Assign priority levels and deadlines for change orders in coordination with the Construction Manager.
  • Collaborate with project controls teams, contracts teams, and other departments as needed.

Construction Management Support

  • Evaluate project issues and support the Construction Manager with technical insights.
  • Resolve construction issues and contribute to design issue resolution.
  • Interface with contractors, client representatives, and agency personnel.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, FCRs, specifications, and related project documentation as required.
  • Review quantity tracking and labor logs, updating issue logs as new items arise.
  • Review schedule updates, look-ahead schedules, and provide input for monthly schedule reporting.

Reporting & Correspondence

  • Assist with preparing reports, letters, and correspondence for executive review and contractor communication.
  • Assemble presentations for management using various software tools.
  • Draft weekly summary narratives and develop summary graphs for Construction Manager review.
  • Review correspondence logs and draft responses to support project communications.

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate work with team members, including Project Controls, Contract Administration, and other functional groups.
  • Support and participate in client-requested activities and Construction Management team tasks.
  • Set up and lead meetings relating to project progress, issues, or specific work activities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in the implementation of project management software tools to support construction management activities.
  • Conduct contract document research to evaluate design and construction changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager (Design-Build).

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

 

 

The expected salary for this position is $169,000- $207,000
