Mott MacDonald is looking for a port planner to provide marine terminal planning and operations services to major port authorities and container terminal operator clients. The port planner will work closely with our Transportation Planning Practice, Rail and Transit Practice, Highway and Roadway Practice, and Advisory Practice across the country. The ideal candidate should have 20 + years of experience in freight planning, port terminal planning and operations.
You'll be responsible for and have experience with the following:
- Conduct marine and intermodal terminal capacity and operational analysis.
- Perform technical oversight on four marine terminals.
- Prepare due diligence studies for container, auto, intermodal rail terminals, port or regional maritime authorities, and marine and/or intermodal terminal operators.
- Lead new container terminal and/or existing terminal expansion feasibility analysis and design.
- Support port project proposals.
- Help to build, maintain, and grow existing and new client accounts.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business/planning/civil engineering/environmental science/social science and related field or equivalent from an accredited college or university
- Previous freight and port planning experience required (20+ years preferred)
- Good knowledge of intermodal fail facilities at ports and supply chain security
- Experience working with major port authorities including Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach and others.
- Experience working with container terminal operator clients.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative teamwork skills.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
The expected salary for this position is $165,000- $200,000
