We are looking for an innovative BIM Project Manager with broad experience in digital technology and engineering project delivery to join our enthusiastic, ambitious, and growing Digital Services Team. The primary focus is project delivery, supported by participation in wider Digital Services leadership, capability development, and client engagement. Our team provides industry-leading digital delivery support to high-profile infrastructure engineering projects by combining digital expertise with engineering domain knowledge and project delivery experience.
Role Responsibilities
- Your primary mandate is to lead BIM and coordinated digital delivery on assigned major projects across our North American region, with a secondary contribution to wider Digital Services initiatives and business development.
- Engage with project leadership, discipline leads, delivery teams, clients, and delivery partners to define practical BIM and digital delivery requirements that respond to project challenges and outcomes.
- Lead multidisciplinary BIM coordination and federated model delivery across design and construction stages, including project setup, model review, clash detection and avoidance, issue tracking, design integration, and resolution across internal teams, joint ventures, clients, and delivery partners.
- Establish and maintain project BIM delivery arrangements, including BIM Execution Plans, coordination procedures, model and drawing assurance, deliverable tracking, meeting and reporting cadence, and interfaces with the Common Data Environment.
- Plan and manage BIM deliverables in accordance with the project plan and BIM Execution Plan, coordinating outputs with design development, construction sequencing, contractor inputs, client requirements, quality procedures, and project governance.
- Apply sound project and commercial awareness to BIM delivery by identifying delivery risks, dependencies, resourcing needs, change impacts, and opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and client outcomes.
- Coordinate models, data, drawings, and documentation with information management and delivery teams, and ensure outputs align with defined roles, responsibilities, data-sharing protocols, access controls, and project requirements.
- Work with Business Development leads, and clients to contribute to proposals and plan digital delivery and BIM workstreams on major pursuits.
- Support resource managers to build capability and grow the next generation of digital delivery leaders through coaching, mentoring, and guidance to digital and BIM leads and their teams.
Broader Digital Contribution
- Engage with team and discipline leads to identify opportunities for digital delivery, information management, GIS, business intelligence, automation, and related project workstreams.
- Collaborate across Mott MacDonald practices and the North American Digital Delivery Network to advance strategic initiatives, provide peer reviews, solve delivery challenges, and promote consistent working methods.
- Contribute to training, capability development, client engagement, proposals, workflow improvement, and the adoption of automation and data-led delivery methods.
Location and Travel: This role is based in Mott MacDonald’s downtown Los Angeles office. We offer a hybrid work environment with flexible hours to balance work demands and life responsibilities. Regular travel is expected and accounts for approximately 50% of time in a Mott MacDonald or client-facing location.
Candidate Specification
About you: You will be able to demonstrate most of the key qualifications and behaviors below:
- Minimum 10 years' experience.
- Relevant degree in engineering or architecture, or a technical diploma.
- Strong project delivery skills and experience defining project deliverables, planning BIM activities, coordinating technical specialists, and identifying opportunities to generate value.
- Demonstrated experience leading project-based BIM/VDC delivery and multidisciplinary model coordination on complex infrastructure projects, preferably including transportation, aviation, rail, tunnels, buildings, water, energy, or other major programs.
- Experience managing federated models, model review and coordination workflows, clash detection and avoidance, issue management, deliverable tracking, and resolution across multidisciplinary and multi-organization teams.
- Strong BIM/VDC capability, including practical experience with model authoring, review, coordination, quality assurance, and data-enabled workflows. Experience with Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D, or Bentley applications is beneficial.
- Experience configuring, managing, or working within Common Data Environments such as Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360, ProjectWise, SharePoint, and Aconex, including collaborative workflows, model coordination, data integrity, and controlled information exchange.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 19650 and BS 1192 / PAS 1192 principles, with the ability to develop or implement BIM Execution Plans, interpret project information requirements, establish project-specific workflows, and apply appropriate governance in a North American delivery context.
- Ability to establish project-specific QA/QC procedures, monitor model development, and align outputs with client standards, project requirements, governance, and delivery milestones.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to streamline workflows, automate processes, standardize outputs, and use data and visualization to improve project delivery.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and work closely with clients, joint ventures, contractors, and delivery partners.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to challenge current practices, supervise specialists, manage multiple priorities, support resourcing, and coach hybrid or remote teams.
- Service-oriented, proactive, able to work autonomously, and committed to quality internal and external client service.
- Eagerness to develop new skills, expand knowledge, and demonstrate a growth mindset.
Role Outcome
The successful candidate will provide delivery-focused BIM project management on assigned major projects, ensuring coordinated BIM and digital engineering outputs are planned, quality-assured, and delivered efficiently. The role will also contribute to broader Digital leadership through mentoring, training, proposals, client engagement, workflow improvement, and the adoption of automation and data-led delivery methods.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
The expected salary for this position is $151,000 - $185,000.
