About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
Overview of the role
We have a range of Pedestrian Modelling roles in our established team based in Madrid, Spain. We provide consultancy services relating to pedestrian modelling and design. This includes building, running and reporting dynamic simulations using CAST, Legion, Viswalk and STEPS, as well as carrying out static analysis.
You would be involved in a range of modelling projects working with teams across the globe. You will undertake technical roles in the development, application and updating of pedestrian models. You will form part of an international team and be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in our wider division.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- Working on pedestrian modelling projects with a focus on spreadsheet based and microsimulation modelling
- Project and task management on modelling projects to include survey programmes, model development, calibration, validation, demand forecasting and appraisal
- Checking and approving model outputs for compliance with quality requirements and industry best practice and motivate others to do so as well
- Training and mentoring other modelling resources to ensure project delivery and staff/team development
- Liaising with clients and other project stakeholders
- Contribute to business development activities including proposal writing

Candidate specification
The successful candidate will be committed to providing high quality, innovative solutions and advice to clients and have good report writing, communication and technical ability.
You will be expected to have a background in transport planning or civil engineering or related disciplines and should have direct experience of applying pedestrian movement principles in a design or operational environment.
Essential:
- Modelling software experience using Legion and Viswalk
- Proven experience working on modelling projects including task leadership
- Skilled in the development of robust models to support decision-making
- Experience in developing pedestrian models from first principles
- Survey design, survey management and data analysis skills
Desirable:
- Project management experience including programme, commercial and financial management
- A history of innovation and involvement in external professional activities
- Some involvement in business development activities and understand the wider transport planning/engineering environment
- Experience supporting junior team members in their career including transferring knowledge and applying pedestrian models
