About the business unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
Overview of the role
Our Energy, Environment and Social team supports some of the most complex infrastructure projects internationally.
We are seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant to be based in Madrid, with a strong focus on coordinating and managing Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and associated studies in line with International Financial Institution (IFI) requirements.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary ESIA teams
- Managing environmental inputs to projects financed by IFIs (e.g. World Bank Group, EBRD, EIB)
- Overseeing baseline studies, impact assessment, mitigation and management plans
- Supporting environmental due diligence and lender compliance reviews
- Engaging with clients, lenders and stakeholders
- Contributing to project management, budgets and programmes
The role will involve some international travel and close collaboration with environmental and social subject matter specialists and engineers.
Candidate specification
Essential:
- Degree qualified in environmental science, environmental engineering or a related discipline
- Demonstrable experience coordinating or managing ESIAs for infrastructure or energy projects
- Strong knowledge of IFI environmental requirements and standards (e.g. World Bank Group, EBRD, EIB)
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing deliverables, budgets and schedules
- Experience with environmental due diligence and construction and operations monitoring, and leading E&S discussions with lenders and developers
- Fluency in English and Spanish, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to travel internationally
Desirable:
- Experience in environmental Due Diligence for lender-funded projects
- In depth knowledge of an environmental discipline eg ecology, noise, water, among others
- Familiarity with EU environmental legislation and sustainability reporting requirements
- Experience in business development and proposal writing
- Membership of a relevant professional institution
