About the Division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design. Together, we deliver best-in-class solutions to our clients while offering diverse and technically stimulating opportunities to our people.
Overview of the role
Do you want to work for a company whose purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes to transform businesses and communities?
Mott MacDonald is a market leader in the UK water sector, being a key supplier to major water companies and delivering a wide variety of engineering and advisory projects in support to the challenges faced by the sector. Working for a company like ours, with technical excellence at our core, offers you access to industry recognised experts in a variety of disciplines, as well as providing the support and opportunities you are after for your career progression. Our business is wholly employee-owned. Being independent means that we can choose our own direction and focus on what we believe is important for our clients, our people and those communities which we work and live in. We are a family of people excited to solve complex challenges that have a positive impact on the world, and we are always looking for like-minded people to join our team.
Our Water Consultancy Division has ambitious growth plans in line with AMP8 (2025-2030) investment needs and we are proud of our strong reputation in the industry which is allowing us to expand our business. We cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning to handover. We also provide specialist technical support to colleagues across our global business, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically complex work.
The scale of investment required in AMP8 is a significant challenge but also a major opportunity to provide a long-lasting legacy to our clients and their regions. It also requires new more efficient ways of delivering our services and for the successful candidate to demonstrate their ability to identify and implement innovations that maintain delivery to programme and commercial targets.
Given this, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Spain to take a leading role in the delivery of complex UK water and wastewater projects, acting as a technical authority for the discipline within multi-disciplinary design teams.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- Leading the development and technical assurance of mechanical design deliverables, ensuring an appropriate balance of time, cost, quality, and risk across one or more projects
- Producing technical specifications, drawings and schedules with a mechanical focus
- Coordinating with other disciplines
- Managing the delivery of your projects to budget and programme, including monthly reporting
- Report writing and preparation of presentation materials
- Working in close partnership with clients, representing the company in technical meetings
- Acting as a technical reviewer and checker, providing engineering judgement on complex or non-standard solutions, and supporting discipline leads with risk-based design decisions
- Mentoring and supporting the development of junior and mid-level engineers, including technical guidance, informal review, and contribution to capability building within the team
At Mott MacDonald you will have control of your own career path and great prospects for career progression as the business continues to grow. We can offer development in technical, management or client-facing directions.
