About the business unit
The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.
Overview of the role
The Senior Associate BIM is responsible for implementing and management of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes tailored to Mott MacDonald project requirements. This role ensures accurate, compliant, and coordinated digital models that support the design and construction of complex buildings whilst satisfying regulatory requirements, applicable standards, and providing information that supports standardisation and industrialisation objectives.
Reporting to the Design Manager, the Senior Associate BIM will work closely across disciplines to ensure the delivery of accurate, coordinated, and efficient project information, helping teams work together seamlessly and supporting the delivery of high-quality BIM Models. In support of Technical Assurance processes, the Senior Associate – BIM will also support the review and assurance of BIM Projects. They will also contribute to continuous progression of BIM technology including ownership of the MEP Revit template, and progression of new incentives to enhance productivity and integrate new technologies such as AI.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- The candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of industry specific BIM and Information Management Standards
- Develop and implement BIM protocols aligned with regulations (e.g. Healthcare, HTM, HBN, NHS standards, or local equivalents) and multi-disciplinary projects as required
- Work with design teams to ensure models are developed in accordance with industry and project specific standards
- Lead BIM execution plans production and implementation for Mott MacDonald projects
- Coordinate with architects, engineering teams and other stakeholders to ensure the accurate integration of discipline specific models to remove potential clashes and provide technically excellent design products
- Lead the teams on BIM Model management and compliance, performing audits as models are developed
- Validate models for compliance with healthcare design guidelines and statutory requirements prior to issue
- Perform clash detection for critical systems (e.g., HVAC for isolation rooms, medical gas lines, multi-disciplinary MEP / structural / architecture, etc.)
- Manage asset data to support industrialisation and standardisation objectives together with the future facilities management and lifecycle planning of the assets (e.g., COBie data for healthcare assets)
- Support digital handover of BIM models and information exchanges on Mott MacDonald projects
- Provide training & support to the team on the topic of BIM Management
- Support the Technical Assurance and Design teams in the review and assurance of BIM models where appropriate across all disciplines
- Train project teams on healthcare-specific or other BIM workflows and tools
- Act as the BIM subject matter expert for the Technical Services team
- Explore integration with Internet of Things (IoT) and smart technologies
- Occassional travel within the UK, as required to attend meetings.
Candidate specification
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience leading BIM management on large/complex building projects
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC
- Proficiency in creating IFC and COBie
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Desirable:
- Demonstrable experience in BIM management on healthcare, defence, Ministry of Justice or data centre projects
- Strong understanding of healthcare facility design, and programmes of standardisation
- A passion and commitment to improving healthcare
- Proficiency in Solibri and healthcare-specific BIM standards
- BIM/Information management Certification
- Autodesk Certified Professional
