Senior Transmission line Engineer

Purpose of the position

The Senior Transmission Line Engineer will provide design and associated engineering support across portfolio of Energy projects.  The candidate will work as an integrated part of MM Lead offices for concept, FEED and detailed design stages of Transmission line design.

Engineering work includes feasibility studies for new line routes, Reference design, Structure designs using TOWER and PLS POLE program, Line schedules, stringing charts, design reports, Functional specifications and design reviews. The candidate will work with the wider design team for successful completion of the project.  

The Senior Transmission Line Engineer will:

• Be proficient with line design software like PLS-CADD, PLS TOWER,  PLS Pole   
• Prepare Concept, FEED and Detailed design for overhead lines using PLS-CADD.
• Carry out Feasibility studies including concept design, reference design, route selection, costs estimates, technical specification, tender/bidding documents for new grid connections and transmission lines
• Prepare design meeting local design standards and related documentation to ensure continued compliance to standards and industry best practice;
• Ensure designs approved for delivery comply with relevant legislation, standards, policies and procedures;
• Experience in designing new families of towers;
• Prepare, review and manage technical specifications and related design documentation;
• Investigate and implement innovative design solutions to meet business and project needs;

Position requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree qualification in Civil /Structural Engineering or equivalent; Master’s will be an added advantage – not mandatory .
• 8-12 years’ experience in an OHL engineering environment including project / design management and proven track record;
• Working knowledge of appropriate Australian and International Standards and Codes of Practice relevant to the design of transmission and distribution OHLs will be preferred;
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the preparation of designs and specifications;
• Possess sound knowledge of life cycle of transmission lines from planning through to construction, operation and maintenance.
• Proficient in the use of engineering design software including PLS-CADD, TOWER and POLE
• Working knowledge of design quality assurance processes to ensure that designs meet quality requirements;
• Working knowledge and demonstrated experience in the requirements and application of Safety in Design
• Ability to promote a high standard of professionalism, effective communication and personal integrity within the design team;
• Proactive, and proficient in working with clients both internally and externally
• Ability to work in a team environment.
