Global Delivery Services Center (GDSC) is a high-impact business unit within Mott MacDonald, dedicated to enhancing project delivery across our global operations. As part of GDSC, you’ll join a team that champions excellence in both technical and digital disciplines, supporting projects at every stage of the lifecycle—from concept to completion. Job Profile

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership, advice, support, and guidance on Safe by Design. Reporting to the Unit General Manager and diagonally to Regional Safety Manager, this is a full-time role, to be undertaken by a qualified designer with a strong health & safety background. Crucial to the role is the ability to communicate well with different stakeholders and to influence at regional and unit level.

Job Description

 

  • Work with the network of safe by design stakeholders across Unit, Region and Group, promoting the techniques, processes and methods that enable health, safety, wellbeing, and injury prevention to be realised. 
  • Encourage and promote the reporting of positive design interventions.
  • Organise and lead initiatives, campaigns and events that promote concepts, examples, and case studies. 
  • Celebrate excellence, using competitions, awards and events that showcase how our designs and thinking makes the world a safer, healthier, and more sustainable place.  
  • Review current training tools and make recommendations for strengthening and where appropriate the creation of Unit & regional specific training.  
  • Lead training and mentoring for SbD in the Unit.
  • Review current PIA and practice site competencies for safe by design and make recommendations.
  • Review the use of digital tools in training.
  • Review how positive design interventions and case studies can be better shared to promote learning.
  • Cover off day to day HSW activities.
  • Lead Safety by Design & constructability workshops.
  • Support compliance with country specific safe by design legislation, where applicable.

 

Candidate specification

 

  • A degree or equivalent in engineering or design-related field.
  • 10–15+ years’ experience Design-led background with strong safety expertise.
  • Membership of other relevant professional bodies would be beneficial but not essential. Safety vocational related qualifications are highly beneficial (IOSH, CSM, IIRSM).  
  • Strong technical experience of health and safety within the design and management of engineering and infrastructure projects, preferably in more than one sector. Experience of working within multi-disciplinary projects. 
  • A passion for how innovation, technology and engineering can make the world a safer, healthier, and more sustainable place.  
  • Ability to influence and persuade others. Confident presenting, promoting, and ‘selling’ ideas and concepts to technical teams, both internally and externally to clients.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, using digital means to share, discuss, store, and promote safe by design best practice.
