The Inspector V serves as a senior-level field inspector responsible for performing advanced inspections on complex engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects. This role provides expert level oversight to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, applicable codes, safety standards, and contract requirements. The Inspector V also mentors junior inspectors, coordinates with project managers and engineers, and provides detailed documentation to support project delivery.
Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out the following duties satisfactorily.
- Reviews and approves material source of supply and certifications
- Schedules personnel and manage logistics for construction sites
- Verifies contractor work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with approved plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Reviews detailed daily reports, inspection logs, and maintain accurate project documentation
- Acts as the primary liaison between contractors, project engineers, and clients
- Participates in progress meetings and contribute updates on inspection status, risks, and field issues
- Provides expert interpretation of plans, specifications, and engineering documents
- Assists engineering staff in diagnosing technical issues affecting project performance or safety
- Maintains accurate project records consistent with company and client standards
- Recommends field adjustments when appropriate and escalate major variances to engineers
- Identifies deficiencies, nonconforming work, safety concerns, and potential risks, and recommends corrective actions
- Ensures strict compliance with project specifications, codes, and contractual requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety
- Maintains a strong and professional client relationship with the contractor and surrounding communities
- Travels to client sites and project locations
- Leads safety meetings, implements safety programs, and conducts compliance audits to ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety standards
- Serves as a safety coordinator for field operations, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.

Candidate Specification
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical training in construction, civil engineering, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in construction inspection, large-scale or complex projects preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Willingness to travel to job sites in the region
- Demonstrated ability to lead field activities safely and support multiple projects with minimal supervision
- Experience with construction or inspection on large, multi-discipline projects preferred
- OSHA 10/30 Certification or ability to obtain upon hire
- Preferred Certifications:
- Confined Space Entry Training
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Excavation Safety
- Electric Safety
- NFPA 70E
- Understanding of contract documents, plans, and specifications and ability to effectively communicate with project construction personnel, surrounding communities, and contractors
- Demonstrated ability to lead field activities and support multiple projects with minimal supervision
- Comprehension of shop drawings, material specifications, and mechanical operations
- Knowledge of construction products, materials, and equipment, as well as construction inspection and management practices and techniques, and safety regulations
