Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Project Engineer ready to take the next step into a leadership position within the Water industry. This position is based in our New Orleans office and is critical to expanding Mott MacDonald’s technical capabilities to better serve our local municipal water and wastewater clients. As a Project Engineer, you will work on projects across our East Unit Water Market, supporting design and delivery of linear water infrastructure and plant-specific improvements. 

 

We’re looking for someone with a strong background in municipal water engineering, whether in linear systems (water mains, sewer lines) or treatment plant design, who is client-focused and eager to grow. This role provides an opportunity to play a key part in expanding Mott MacDonald’s water market in Louisiana while contributing to major water and wastewater projects across North America. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Lead technical design efforts for linear water infrastructure and plant-related improvements, including calculations, plans, and specifications.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling, water quality analysis, and prepare design reports.
  • Support project managers in delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Provide construction administration (CE&I) support, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field observations.
  • Collaborate with municipal clients such as SWBNO and Jefferson Parish, ensuring compliance with local standards.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and adhere to QA/QC protocols.

Required Experience 

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Louisiana (or ability to obtain within 6 months). 
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in water/wastewater infrastructure design.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D; familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., WaterGEMS, InfoWater).
  • Strong understanding of municipal water and sewer system design standards.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. 
 

 

Preferred Experience 

  • Previous work with Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) or Jefferson Parish projects.
  • Familiarity with Gulf Coast municipal standards and permitting processes.
  • Experience with linear water projects and/or plant-specific improvements.
  • Exposure to construction administration (CE&I) for water/wastewater projects.
  • Ability to contribute to proposals and client-facing deliverables.
