Mott MacDonald is seeking a Resident Inspector to support roadway, drainage, water, sewer, and utility infrastructure construction in New Orleans. The Resident Inspector will provide full-time field inspection during active construction and serve as an important link between the contractor, Construction Administrator, testing agencies, utility agencies, and other project stakeholders.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience inspecting municipal infrastructure construction, maintaining accurate field documentation, tracking quantities, and identifying and communicating field issues.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Observe construction activities and verify work is performed in accordance with the contract plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Inspect, measure, document, and track eligible work and quantities associated with contractor pay requests.
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, workforce, equipment, quantities, field conditions, and other relevant information.
  • Photograph and document construction progress on a daily basis.
  • Identify and promptly communicate construction activities or field conditions that may adversely affect existing utilities, adjacent properties, infrastructure, or surrounding areas.
  • Document unforeseen conditions encountered during construction and coordinate with the Construction Administrator, contractor, utility agencies, and other project stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Monitor roadway, drainage, sewer, water, paving, and related utility construction activities.
  • Coordinate and monitor work performed by material testing agencies, utility agencies, and other third parties.
  • Maintain accurate field records, including quantities, photographs, notes, sketches, and supporting documentation for field or plan changes.
  • Coordinate and monitor authorized project visitors while onsite.
  • Monitor contractor-provided traffic control and site safety measures and promptly communicate observed concerns to the Construction Administrator.
  • Prepare field memoranda, incident reports, and other construction documentation as required.
  • Maintain project inspection documentation using Procore and other project-specific systems.

 

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

 

  • Minimum 2 years of construction inspection experience and current Louisiana DOTD certification in the following roadway construction categories:
    • Embankment and Base Course
    • Asphalt Concrete
    • Portland Cement Concrete (PCC)
  • OR, in lieu of the DOTD certifications above, a minimum of 5 years of experience inspecting these roadway construction activities.
  • Completion of the Work Zone Traffic Control Technician (TCT) course.
  • Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) course completion for candidates serving in a field senior technician capacity.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience preparing daily inspection reports and maintaining construction photographs, quantity records, and other field documentation.
  • Ability to work in an active construction environment and perform field inspection activities for the duration of the workday.
  • Valid driver's license. 
  • Preferred experiences:
    • Previous inspection experience on LADOTD, City of New Orleans and/or Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans projects.
    • Experience with roadway, paving, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, and utility construction in an urban environment.
    • Familiarity with City of New Orleans, SWBNO, and LADOTD standards and specifications.
    • Experience measuring and documenting installed quantities in support of contractor pay applications.
    • Experience coordinating with contractors, engineers, material testing laboratories, utility agencies, and construction administration teams.
    • Experience documenting unforeseen conditions, utility conflicts, field changes, and other construction issues.
    • Experience using Procore or similar construction management and field documentation software.
